Vidya
Prasarak Mandal, Thane, (VPM,
Thane) was founded as a 'Trust' in the year 1935. Its founding fathers, inspired
by freedom struggle of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, were men of modesty, with
idealism and desire to serve the educational needs of the people of Thane. It
began with a Marathi language medium School. Dr.V.N.Bedekar, a medical
practitioner joined the trust in 1955 and then there was a radical change in the
functioning of the 'Trust'.
With the vision of empowering the youth of Thane and nearby areas, the
Jnandweepa was established- at a time where meagre faclities for education were
available. From then to now, where separate individual college buildings,
well-equipped, beautiful and breezy auditorium viz. 'Thorale Bajirao Peshwe
Sabhagruha', independent auditoriums for colleges, well equipped libraries,
internet connection through leased-line with 24 hour access to online national /
international databases, Wi-Fi internet facility over complete college campus
exist today.
VPM has articulated its Vision, Mission and Goals in unequivocal terms. VPM’s
Group of Institutions has a lot of interaction with foreign institutions
characterized by Collaboration and MOUs with foreign institutions.
VPM’s
Group of Institutions are engaged in
a wide variety of academic activities and co-curricular activities in Thane that
include inter-alia, Convocation, Disha Vyasapeetha, Annual Dr. V. N. Bedekar
Memorial Lectures, Foundation Day, Online admission system and Social
Sensitivity & Commitment.
