Introduction :
Vidya Prasarak Mandal (VPM)  is a premier Educational   Trust in   Thane which was  established in  August 1935. Ex. President Late Dr. V. N. Bedekar had a dream of creating an “Island of Knowledge” (Jnandweepa) in Thane. He had a great foresight for young generation of developing Thane city and need of education to turn this youth into good citizens of India .With this singular zeal, and enthusiastic support from his colleagues, he succeeded in bringing it in reality. In 1969, Vidya Prasarak Mandal’s College started functioning with all three faculties i.e. Arts, Commerce and Science on a 13 acre piece of land which was marshy, muddy area inundated by water of the nearby Thane creek during   high  tide. The  then  Chief  Minister  of  Goa,  Hon. Shri  Dayanand Bandodkar  gave  a  generous  donation  of Rs.3, 20,000 / - for the construction of the Science ollege building. In June 1975, the affiliation of College was changed to University of Mumbai from University of Pune, and in the same year, B. N. Bandodkar College of Science was separated from the Arts and Commerce College for administrative convenience.
B.N.Bandodkar is the ONLY Single Faculty Science College, affiliated to University of Mumbai.   
Our institution welcomes the rationale behind the ideologies of NAAC with great passion. In a developing country like India, with its heterogeneous and massive population, mechanism for Assessment and Accreditation of colleges is certainly the most effective way of ensuring quality education.

• Our College is Re-Reaccredited by NAAC with “A” grade in the year 2009-10.
• In the year 2010 Our College got Best College Award by University Of Mumbai.
• In the Year 2012-13 Our College achieved a sanction of  Rs.1 Crore by DST under sFIST - “O” Level.
• Our College is a second prize winner at “JAGAR JANIVANCHA” from Thane region oragnized by Government of Maharashtra in the year 2012-13.
• Our College is a First Prize winner at “JAGAR JANIVANCHA” from Thane region oragnized by Government of Maharashtra in the year 2013-14.
• In March 2015 we have been honoured with "Commendation Certificate" from Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award in Education Sector.
• Our College is Re-Reaccredited by NAAC with “A” grade in the year 2015-16.
• Our College selected under Star College Scheme by DBT in 2015.
• Our College selected for CPE status and got sanction 1.5 crore grant by UGC, New Delhi.
• Recipient of Milestone Merits Leadership-2018Award under the leadership category by RBNQA on 20th March 2019.
