The
library of Joshi-Bedekar College -The fountain of knowledge
and inspiration- enjoys the reputation of being one of the best
libraries in the vicinity of Mumbai.
The
library was established in 1969 with the establishment of the
college. The library is situated on the second floor of the
commerce building and is made easily accessible from all corners
of the college premises. It has a carpet area of about 5000
sq.ft. Complete database of the library holdings has been created
by using Libsuite asp version. OPAC - Online Public Access Catalogue
is provided for students and teachers. Two dedicated computers
are installed for OPAC. Now students are using OPAC extensively
for all their queries regarding library documents and information
retrieval. The library is connected with other four libraries
on the campus and integrated database is made available for
all users. Books on inter library loan are provided to the students
and teachers on demand. Computers of all the libraries on the
campus are connected to the central server. Local hub is provided
in each of the five libraries for speedy communication of data.
The unique feature of the library is that its database can be
accessed from any part of the world through web OPAC available
on www.vpmthane.org
The
library has the privilege of using 2 MBPS Internet leased
line. OPAC of the library is made available in the staff common
room. Readers can trace the availability of the books from
this OPAC.
