The Department of Accountancy conducted three Programmes in Kathyan Hall in the College upto 12th January 2009, primarily for the benefit of our TYBCOM students, and several more are proposed to be held in February 2009 after the TYBCOM Preliminary Examination.

The Programmes can be classified under two groups as follows:

1. Case Studies – One Programme held on 6th December, 2008

2. Powerpoint – Presentation-cum-lecture Series (Revisionary and Advanced). Two such Presentations were made on 10th January 2009 and 12th January 2009.

The 1st Programme was held on 6th December 2008. It consisted of a Case Study of the Annual Report of Dabur India Ltd. for the year ended 31st March, 2008, especially the Company’s Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Account, Cash Flow Statement and important notes to the accounts. The programme was prepared and presented by students of TYBCOM class jointly with teachers from Accountancy Department. The following students from TYBCOM Class read out major portions from the Company’s Balance Sheet, Profit and

Loss Account, Cash Flow Statement and important notes to the accounts.

They also raised various queries based on the Statements read out. These queries were then taken up by the teachers from Accountancy Department, who explained the same in detail to the audience of more than 100 TYBCom students. This Case Study also touch upon related areas outside the syllabus and of current importance like Corporate dividend tax, negative Current Ratio of financially strong FMCG Companies etc.

The Powerpoint Presentation-cum-lecture Series were started primarily to improve the TYBCom results, which have shown an increasing trend as follows:

  TYBCom
  Year   Pass Percentage
  2005-06 63 %
  2006-07  67%
  2007-08 74%

For this purpose, two such presentations were made as follows:

Several more were held in February 2009 after the TYBCom Preliminary Examination. Both the Lectures were reasonably well attended with a 100-plus audience.

The Department has utilized advanced educational tools like Case Study Method and PowerPoint Presentations during the academic year. The student’s response was extremely positive.

The active involvement of all the members of the Department in organizing the above-mentioned Programmes deserves appreciation.

Special thanks are also due to our Principal Dr. Mrs. S.A. Singh for the constant encouragement and for personally attending the Programmes from time to time.
