Talent
Academy
The Talent Academy was
formed two years ago with a vision to identify and nurture the
hidden talent among the students in the fields of performing arts,
creative arts and literary arts; to provide an opportunity to
develop their potential and provide a platform to display their
abilities in front of wider audience.
In the first meeting of
Talent Academy in June, Principal Dr. Shakuntala Singh informed the
students about the aims and objectives of the academy. Students were
informed about various events and competitions organized by
different colleges.
Talent Academy organized
a Dance workshop in July 2008. In this workshop classical and Folk
styles of dance were persented. 97 students attended the workshop.
The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Medha Divekar, a renowned Katthak
dancer and one of our alumini.
Every year Mumbai
University youth festival is held in the month of August. This year
our college participated in 20 events. Grand rehearsal of student’s
performances was organized on 9th
Aug 08 in Katyayan, in front of a large audience. Entries of our
college qualified for the finals in light vocal, monoacting, one act
play, clay modelling, classical dance events. Final rounds were
conducted by student’s welfare department University of Mumbai.
Kailas Kadam won consolation prize in acting and Mayuri Pawar was
awarded 3rd
prize in classical dance.
Our students participated
in the one act play competition. The play was written and directed
by Shri. Deepak Bhagwat. It was selected for preliminary round.
Our students participated
in, "H$mbmam_'
('Kalaram') one act play competition held by D. Y. Patil
college and reached finals.
In the month of October,
the academy organized a Rangoli workshop. Volunteers from 'Sanskar
Bharati' demonstrated various designs and Rangoli patterns.
Many colleges organized
intercollegiate competitions during Movember and December. Our
students participated in intercollegiate competitions held by NKT
college, Dnyanasadhana college, Somaiyya college, Adarsh college,
Ruia college, D.Y. Patil college. Various performances at 'Paramount
Festivel' of D.Y. Patil College earned the "Most Promising
college" trophy for our college. A number of prizes have been
won in light vocal music by Tejashree Parchure. Venkatesh Kadam and
Sanjyoti Redkar won many prizes in creative arts such as Rangoli,
Poster - making, T-Shirt painting, tattoo making, 'Best out of
waste' etc in various intercollegiate competitions.
Talent academy organized
presentation of one act play "~Xbbobr
~Xbr', which was directed by our
student Punit Khandekar. Students from Junior as well as Degree
college performed in it.
A workshop on 'Light
Vocal' was arranged by the academy in December. Shri. Shrikant
Ranade, an accomplished classical vocalist introduced students to
light vocal music. Students gained appreciation and confidence to
attempt light vocal music at the end of the workshop.
Our students also
participated in Debating and elocution competitions. Ashwin Dhakras
and Gayatri Kumar won first prize in debate at Somaiyya college.
The report will be
incomplete without mentioning the tremendous support from Principal
Dr. S. A. Singh, Vice Principal, (Mrs.) L. P. Bhat, Dr. Padmini
Murti. We express our gratitude towards them. Tireless efforts by
cultural secretary Nivedita Lomte and Talent Academy secretary
Priyanka Nikam resulted in successful conduct of various activities
of the academy under the able guidance of Prof. D. S. Bhide
