December.. a month our
students look forward to... for it heralds Navrang, our culture
extravaganza. This year was no exception. Our talented students
began preparations much before the dates of the competitions were
announced.
The terrorist attack of
November 26th dramatically changed the vibrant scenario in the
campus. The terror unleashed causing the death of innocent citizens
cast a spell of gloom all over the country. The festive spirit was
replaced by a sombre mood wanting to pay homage to the victims and
express solidarity with the grief stricken families. In keeping with
the prevalent mood the college authorities decided to eliminate
entertainment -based programmes and focus only on creative and
classroom based events. The decision to forgo music, dance and stage
based programmes was fully endorsed and accepted by the Student
Council and student community. The stage was set for a quiet Navrang
festival without much fanfare.
The programmes commenced
with sports on 22nd Dec. It was followed by Mehendi, Hairstyle,
Elocution, Essay writing, Rangoli, News Reading & Writing. The
2nd day i.e. 23rd Dec. saw creativity at its best with student,
participating in T-shirt painting, Poster Painting, Ceramic and Clay
work, Glass painting, Best out of Waste, Candle decoration, Flower
arrangements, Salad decoration. A quiz competition was conducted on
the same day. The participation was encouraging and the best were
awarded certificates and prizes. Student Council members and teacher
advisors worked in tandem to make the festival a success.
The Annual Prize
Distribution was organised on 24th Dec. A decision was taken to
invite one of our successful alumini to grace the occasion as chief
guest. Mrs. Shyamashree Bhonsle, Principal of TMC Jiddh School for
special children was the choice. The chief guest, in her address to
a packed audience shared her professional experiences as a Special
Child instructor and encouraged students to excel in their chosen
fields. Members of staff with special achievements to their credit
were felicitated by the chief guest.
With the prize
distribution the Navrang festival concluded with a hope and a prayer
that 2009 would usher in a year of peace and progress for all.
