Library  


The library of Joshi - Bedekar College is considered as one   of the best college libraries among the colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai. Library is working in four different sections. Students extensively use all the sections of the library, on an average around 1000 students visit every day to the different sections of the library. During the academic year 2008 - 2009 library witnessed following important activities.

Library organized Orientation program for students of senior college and self financed courses. Programmable smart identity cards are issued to students and staff.

Library is going to install ‘Electronic Door Access Control Units’ at Reference and Research Section and Reading Hall section. The system will take care of providing access to the bonafide readers of the college and it’ll also provide statistical report of the library usage. Purchase order for these units has been issued to the supplier and it will be installed very soon.

During the academic year library added The Dictionary of Scientific Biographies, a reputed biographical source of information. This source has been added to the collection of library in print as well as online version. College has spent Rs. 2.00 lakh for it and it has been made available to the readers on www.vpmthane.org

The air-conditioned ‘Research and Reference section’ is equipped with world famous reference books and 161 academic journals. Library is equipped with 73500 books, 2,700 books have been added to its collection during this academic year. Library subscribes to 146 academic journals, receives 15 complimentary journals. Updated database of all books and journals is made available on OPAC and also on WEB-OPAC on www.vpmthane.org. Library offers Book Bank facility to needy students of backward class and economically backward class students. In this academic year the facility has been availed by 161 students and 543 books have been issued to them.

A book display was organized on the occasion of National Seminar on Post Independence Indian Literature on 16th and 17th January 2009 at Thorale Bajirao Peshve Sahbhagriha. The delegates for the seminar appreciated the collection of books. Mrs. Manisha Patil, Assistant Librarian and library staff took part in the book display activity.

I express my gratitude towards Dr. Vijay Bedekar, Chairman, Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane and Dr. Shakuntala Singh, Principal for extending their full support and guidance for the activities of the library. I offer my sincere thanks to Prof. (Mrs.) Radha Natarajan, Chairperson. Library Committee and all the members of the library committee for their cooperation. I take this opportunity to thank my library staff and office staff for their cooperation and help in the smooth functioning of the library during the academic year.
