3. Mrs.Kadambari Manjrekar
Successfully completed Diploma in Journalism of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University. She secured first class in this diploma.

4. Mr.Prakash Mali
1) He was recently awarded the "Best Teacher Award" instituted by the Government of Maharashtra Education Department.The award is given to selected teachers who have contributed significantly in the growth and development of students in particular and society in general. Shri. Prakash Mali has put in lots of efforts in the Education and social areas. The award was given at the hands of honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan in th grand function held at Aurangabad on 5th September 2011. Shri. Prakash Mali was accompanied by his wife on the stage. Education Minister Shri. Rajendra Darda, Minister of State for Education Mrs. Fouzia Khan, Minister for Higher Education Shri. Rajesh Tope, Guardian Minister Shri. Balasaheb Thorat were also present on this occasion.

2) He has been selected as a Member, Board of Studies for Chemistry by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune.

3)He is also selected as a Member, Peace Committee formed by Thane Police Commissioner Office, for Ulhasnagar Circle No. 4 recently.

Yoga committee

Yoga committee in collaboration with Shri Ambica Yog Kutir, Thane conducted classes for F.Y.J.C. from 16th Aug 2011 to 3rd Oct. 2011. As Yoga training is a part of the curriculum of F.Y.J.C. the classes were conducted for all 480 students. The division wise schedule was as below.

The class for each division was conducted once every week. All yoga committee members and yoga teachers from Shri Ambica Yog Kutir participated in the training program. The teachers Mrs. Lalita Dixit, Prof M.H. Dixit, Shri R.T.Misal, Mrs. Shobha Patil, Mrs Sadhana Patil, Mrs Meenakshi Dalvi, Mrs, Sadhana Mali along with the committee members conducted the classes enthusiastically and motivated the students to lead a healthy life by practicing yoga. The students were taught shuddhikriyas, aasanas, simple pranayamas, tratak and other relaxation techniques. The training will help the students to keep fit and also improve concentration in study and memory.

Yoga Committee - June to October 2011

To train the students and the staff in yoga for total health, a certificate course in yoga was conducted from 28th June to 23rd August 2011.18 students and 2 staff joined the course of which 10 students and 2 staff completed the course successfully. Certificates were given on 23rd Aug. 2011. Shri Ramachandra Surveji, Secretary, Shri. Ambica Yog Kutir, Thane was a
chief Guest. Surveji elaborated importance of yoga in everybody’s life. He especially mentioned that yoga is a life style suitable for a person of any caste or religion. Every person has a right to lead a healthy life and yoga can make one healthy. It keeps our body, mind and soul fit. It is useful in every walk of life. His talk was highly motivating.


Orientation programme about Credit Based Grading System for F.Y.B.Sc. (July 23 & 25, 2011)

Orientation programme for F.Y.B.Sc. students was conducted to explain the Credit Based Grading System for 2011-2012. The new evaluation scheme and timetable of the assignment submissions and the class test for Semester I was declared.
Students were encouraged to earn more credits and made aware of the new scheme through simple power point presentation. Two sessions by Dr. N. N Patil and Dr. K.D. Phal were held on 23rd and 25th July, 2011 between 10.30 -11.30 a.m. Around 184 students attended the programme.

First Preparatory Workshop on Cloud Technology (July 9, 2011)

First preparatory workshops towards "Cloud Technology" conference was scheduled on July 9, 2011by I.T. Department. Mr. Vinayak Burkule, Vice Principal B. N. Bandodkar College of Science, Thane was the chief guest. Around 150 students and 5 staff members were present. Mr. Abhijeet Kale, Incharge Department of Information Technology explained the purpose of the conference and explained views in context to Cloud Technology.

Science Square

"Zoozone" the intra collegiate competition was held on 12th August 2011 from 10.00 am onwards in Patanjali sabhagruha. 38 students participated in the competition, presenting PowerPoint and poster on following topics:
1. Your ideas of Cleanliness/Hygiene
2. Decrease in Tolerance level in Youth
3. Forest in Future
4. Urban Eco-System
Ninty five students and 10 professors attended the event. Professor Vidhyadhar Walavalkar of
V.P.M.'¦s Polytechnic and also eminent social worker, a founder member of NGO
"ENVIRONVIGIL" judged the competition.
Vishakha Patil and Sneha Velenkar stood first.
Two groups, 1) Manali chauhan and Anjali Bhoir 2) Sweekar Ghangale and Ritesh Beni
bagged second position.
Komal Gaikwad and Swarika Tiwari stood third.
Consolation prize was given to Saritha Joshi and Krishma Singh.
Priyanka Tambe and Shubhangi Raktade bagged first position in poster competition.

Trekking and Hiking committee


The trekking and hiking committee of our college along with the students and staff members visited the Kondane caves (Karjat) on Sunday 18th September 2011. Seven teachers accompanied the students and they made that day a very memorable and enjoyable one for the students.
We started from Thane at 6:00 a.m. and reached Karjat at 7:45 a.m. We had breakfast and then started our trek to Kondane caves at 8:30 a.m. It took 2 hours to reach mountain top. We were very tired and took lunch and relaxed for hour. We started journey back at 3:00 p.m. and reached Thane station at 6:30 p.m.
10 students attended this trek.

Light Vocal Music Competition

Swami Samarth Light Vocal Music Competition was organized by Cultural Association for Junior and Degree College students on Thursday, 15th September 2011 at Patanjali Sabhagruha of our college. This competition was inaugurated with lighting of lamps by the judges Mrs. Kishori Pataki and Mrs. Mohini Kulkarni along with Vice Principal Degree College Mr. Vinayak Burkule, Vice Principal Junior College Mr. H. B. Katkar and Cultural Coordinator Mr. Prakash Mali. Near about 30 students participated in this competition. Anuksha Kulkarni from FYJC secured the First Prize while Sweekar Ghangale from F.Y.B.Sc. I.T secured second prize. Prajkta Barhate from SYJC and Abhay Dongare from FYBSc secured third prize. Anagha Salunkhe from FYBSc and Siddhant Shinde from SYJC secured consolation prize.

Sahitya Sahavas

Sahitya Sahavas had arranged a programme on 10/08/2011 in Patanjali Hall. The programme was on topics of “Anti-Dowry” & “Stree bhrun Hatya.” The teaching & non – teaching staff attended the programme. The students from various divisions were present for the programme. Nine students recited their poems. The teachers also presented their poems & spoke on the topic. A video film on “Stree bhrun” was shown with importance for female life. The film was brought by a student to show it, which was very well appreciated by the audience. The programme was successful.

 

Literary Association

Gandhi Vichar Sanskar Pariksha (September 30, 2011)

Gandhi Research Foundation , Jalgoan, organized state level written competition
" Gandhi Vichar Sanskar Parikasha", based on the books titled " Gandhi Ganga" by Prof. Dr. M. B. Shaha, for Jr. college and "Sankshipt Aatmakatha" by Mr. M. K. Gandhi for Degree college students. This competition is part of celebration of Gandhi Jayanti which falls on 2nd October 2011.
Literary Association conducted the said examination (Pariksha) on 30th September 2011 and carried out assessment of the answer books. Eighty eight students participated in the competition.
First three winners will be declared by the Gandhi Research foundation at each district level. The participating students shall receive the participating certificate.

Debate and Elocution Competition

Debate and elocution competition was organized by Literary association on 7th September 2011. 15 students participated in the competition. Competition was conducted in Marathi, Hindi and English.



Essay Competition

Essay competition for Degree and Junior college students was organized by Literary association on 20th July 2011 from 3.30 pm to 4.30pm.Forty two students participated in the competition . Competition was conducted in Marathi, Hindi and English languages.
The subjects for essay were-
a) Right to Information Act : A dual edge weapon.
b) Inflation -- Causes and cure.
c) Politics in sports.

Poetry and story (writing) competition for Degree and Junior college students was organized by Literary Association. The competition was conducted in Marathi, Hindi and English languages. Five themes for poetry were given and students were asked to write story on any subject.Thirty two students participated in poetry competition and 15 students participated in story competition.

Employment cell

The Employment cell of B N. Bandodkar college of Science had arranged a lecture on "How to face interview" on 27 of July 2011.
The lecture was given by Prof.A.A.Kale (I.T.) department, B N. Bandodkar college of Science for T.Y.B.Sc. students. In order to increase the interest in placement activities, he explained various skills & techniques which would help to reduce interview fear from student's mind.
Sixty Six students, 02 teaching staff, & 01 non-teaching staff attended the lecture.

Department of Zoology

Inaugural function of Green Force Nature Club & Photography Club was held on Saturday, 23rd July 2011.Dr. Amol Patwardhan, a Wild Life Photographer and Assistant Professor of Zoology at K. J. Somaiya, Vidyavihar Mumbai, was invited as a resource person. He gave an interesting talk on Wild Life Photography. He showed different slides on Birds, Butterflies, Insects, and Reptiles etc. He explained us the use of Camera Lenses & Flash during Photography and also "Importance of Wild Life Conservation"
Sixty Five Students and Thirteen teachers actively participated in the function.

Excursion

Zoology Department (July 29, 2011)

An excursion was conducted for T.Y.B.Sc. (Zoology) students, to Arrey Fish Farm, Govt. of Maharashtra, Goregaon, on Saturday, 29th July, 2011. Fifteen students attended this activity. They were enlightened with the presentation on fish farming such as polyculture of Indian major carps, composite culture, induced breeding and pearl culture by Mr. Ramesh Tripathi. Students also availed an opportunity to explore the Chinese hatchery as well as lay out of fish farm such as nursery pond, stocking pond, different developmental stages of fish (spawn, hatchlings, fry and fingerlings). The students were accompanied by Dr. (Mrs.) S. V. Mahajan, Prof. S. D.Rathod and Dr. (Mrs.) P. N. Kurve.

 

Botany Department (July 13, 2011)

T.Y.B.Sc. (Botany) students were taken for their study tour (Botanical Excursion) to 'Sawantwadi' Agro-tourism area, Donegaon, Vangani, Dist. Thane on 13th July 2011.All 16 students from the current T.Y.B.Sc.botany class/ batch attended and actively participated in the excursion.Students were accompanied by Dr. Moses Kolet and Ms. Shraddha Raut. The escorting teachers enlightened students on the flora of the region, which also included the banks of 'Ulhas' River.Shri. Vishwanath Sawant from the agro-tourism centre explained the various aspects of agro-tourism during the conducted tour of the area.
