INTRODUCTION
B. N. Bandodkar College of Science, the only Single Faculty College in Science stream, affiliated to Mumbai University came into existence in June 1975. It was a composite Art, Science and Commerce College , which were started by a parent body, Vidya Prasarak Mandal in June 1969, till 1975. In 1975 Science College was bifurcated and became a separate entity.
The then Chief Minister of Goa , Hon. Shri Dayanand (Bhausaheb) Bandodkar gave a generous donation of Rs. 3,20,000 / - for the construction of the Science college building. The college was to be named after his father as “Balkrishna Naik Bandodkar College of Science”. The foundation stone of the Science College building was laid on 01-06-1969 . After superannuation of Principal K. G. Bedekar, Shri M. D. Nadkarni was appointed as principal.
Our college is situated on beautiful campus, full of trees and greenery along with its sister concerns, i.e. Art, and Commerce College, Law College, VPM Polytechnic and Management Institute. The campus is known as Dnyandweep means ‘ ISLAND OF KNOWLEDGE’.
Our institute has welcomed the rationale behind the NAAC with great enthusiasm. Assessment and Accreditation of institutes of higher education is certainly the most effective way of ensuring quality education. In a developing country like India , with its heterogeneous and massive population, such a mechanism has become a necessity.
The college is awarded B++ grade with 81.75% ; which is valid for 5 years. The grade depends on criteria such as Curricular Aspects, Teaching-Learning and Evaluation methods, Research, Consultancy and Extension facilities, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Student Support and Progression, organization and management, Healthy practices.
We want to prepare our student to the challenges of the 21 st century. We groom them to compete successfully in the knowledge age. We equip them to do better than the best in a globalize environment, where learning should be fun and teaching should be pleasure. We give them quality education.
