Inaugural lecture

· Inaugural lectures for S.Y.B.Sc. and T.Y.B.Sc students were arranged on 8th June 2009.
· Inaugural lecture for S.Y.J.C. students was arranged on 15th June 2009
· Inaugural lecture for F.Y.J.C. students was arranged on 30th July 2009.
· Inaugural lecture for F.Y.B.Sc.(unaided). students was arranged on 14th July 2009.
· Inaugural lecture for F.Y.B.Sc. (aided) students was arranged on 30th June 2009.

Cultural Association

  • Inauguration function of the cultural association for the year 2009-10 was arranged on 30th July in 'Thorale Bajirao Sabhagruha'. Prof Ashok Bagave -famous poet was chief guest. On this occasion he presented a programme 'Shravan sari'.
  • Light Vocal Music competition was organized by cultural association on 17th Sept 2009 at Patanjali Sabhagruha. Ms. Kirti Agashe and Ms. Indumati Pethe worked as the judges.
  • Annual social gathering for the year 2009-10 "Akanksha" was held from 22nd Dec to 24th Dec 2009. The Theme for this year was Global Warming.
  • Prize distribution and publication of annual magazine 'Sanyuja' ceremony was held on 18th Jan 2010. Dr. B.B. Sharma, Principal, KET'S Vaze - Kelkar College, Mulund, graced the occasion as chief guest.

Dramatics committee

Our college presented drama "Speed" in Mrugajal Competition. About 40 students participated in the same. The same drama was presented in Saphale College where one student got certificate for Best Actress

Magazine Committee


Through Magazine Committee various competitions were held. At the end of the year we published comprehensive magazine "Sanyuja." Publishing of the annual magazine gives students a way to express their creative thinking and writing potential. The Cover page was deigned by Omkar Kulkarni from T.Y.B.Sc (I.T.) and coverpage photograph was taken by Rajas Mhatre. Cover page decorated with the sensitive poem by Akshata Pehelkar(F.Y.J.C.).

Club Activities

  • The inaugural lecture of Zoology club- Green force Nature club was organized on 10th Oct 2009. NYASS TRUST is an organization working in the field of environment awareness. Miss Gayatri Oak, our T.Y. B.Sc. student who is a member of this NGO, delivered the presentation about the 'Tiger Projects in India , past & present'. NYASS TRUST is conducting a signature Campaign which was held in college to save Tigers of Tadoba.
  • The Inaugural function of chemistry club "Urja" was organized on 1st Oct 2009 at the hands of Dr. Ravi Deshmukh, Principal, Karjat College.
  • A Lecture by Ms. Dhanashree Lele on personality development 'Sundar Mi Honar' was arranged on 29th Sept. 2009 in Patanjali Sabhagruha by IT club.
  • Solar Eclipse Physics Club "Avishkar" arranged a telescope on 15th January 2010 on the college terrace to view the Solar Eclipse. Many students and staff members could see the Avishkar of nature. Dr. Nyayate, Mr. Bapat and Mr. Chaudhari from Physics department helped the students and staff for the same.
  • CD Exhibition was organised on 13th January 2010 by Friends of Linbrary Club. About 69 CDs - educational and for general reference were kept for display. About 100 students and staff members visited the exhibition.

 

Excursions

Department of Zoology :

F.Y.B.Sc excursion was conducted to prince of Wales Museum, Mumbai on 27th Oct, 2009. Four staff members accompanied One hundred students.

Department of Botany:

Arranged one-day Botanical excursion of F.Y.B.Sc. Class to Pune on fifth Nov.2009.Three teachers and 66 students joined excursion.
v Arranged three-day Botanical excursion of S.Y.B.Sc. & T.Y.B.Sc. Class to Aurangabad, on 10 - 13 November, 2009. Three teachers and 34 students visited various places.

Department of Bio-Technology
1. Study tour was arranged to Enviro-vigil, - Biomedical waste treatment & disposal facility, Thane for SY Biotech / Micro & T.Y.B.Sc.

2. A study tour of TY Biotech students was arranged to Hyderabad from 20 Oct. to 25th October 09. Students visited the institutes like CCMB, IICT, and ICRISAT at Hyderabad for their future prospects in research & development.

Gymkhana Committee (Sports)

Indoor Activities were held from 10th December 2009 to 23rd December 2009. Annual Sports Meet was organized on 21st December 2009 on college ground. Students participated in various events. College Gymkhana committee arranged Carom, Table Tennis Tournaments for the Teaching and Non-teaching staff members.

The social activities of NSS students are given below

On 15th September 2009 blood donation camp was organized on college campus in collaboration with Sir J. J. group of Hospitals, Byculla. The students and teachers donated 130 bottles of Blood.

Our NSS students volunteers participated in various University Level, Area based and College level activities.

University Level Activities:

1. 10th - 11th July: Seminar on Vasundhara Bachao was arranged by NSS Cell, University of Mumbai at Gadakari Rangayatan, Thane.

2. 12th Aug. 09: Yuvak Melava at Civil Hospital, Thane.

3. 1st Oct. 09: AIDS Awareness Rally arranged at Civil Hospital, Thane.

4. 2nd Oct. 09: Gandhi Peace March - The rally held on International Day of Non - Violence at Azad Maidan, Churchgate, by NSS cell, University of Mumbai in association with Sarvodaya Mandal, Ghatkopar.

5. 15th Oct. 09: Peace Rally was conducted at Somaiya College, Vidya Vihar by NSS Cell, University of Mumbai.

Area based activities:

1. From 14th June 2009 to 20th Nov.09 :Saplings preparation and post plantation care activities conducted through trekking at Kasarvadavali and Kajupada,Ghodbunder,Thane was conducted on every Sundays in association with Hariyali, Thane.

2. On 20th Sept. 09 &27th Sept. 09: Watershed development project studied at Bhavale Lonad forest at Bhiwandi in association with Hariyali.

College Level Activities:

1. Blood donation camp was arranged in association with Rotary Club of Kanjurmarg in the college campus on 15th Sept. 09and 48 Bottles of Blood collected Blood donated to J.J.Hospital, Mumbai..

2. Celebration of NSS DAY was arranged at Patanjali Auditorium in the college on24th Sept. 09. Dr. (Mrs.) Bhavana Motwani from CHM College, Ulhasnagar conducted Personality Development Workshop and NSS Rally was also arranged in college campus.

3. From 23rd Oct. to 25th Oct.2009: seminar was arranged on Gender Equality by Akshara in the college.

4. On 29th Oct. 09: Pathways of Excellence seminar and on 9th Nov. 09: Exposure Rally was arranged by Akshara at Govandi.

5. On 15th Nov. 09 Seminar on "Life Reborn" - Dwij Puraskar by Dr. Anand Nadkarni was arranged at Gadkari Auditorium, Thane.

6. Special Residential Camp was arranged at Waphe nursery, Shahapur, Asangaon from 25th Dec.09 to 31st Dec. 09 During this camp development of Butterfly Garden was ndertaken.

Jointly in association with Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti & National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Thane, NSS organized 1)Inter Collegiate Workshop on "Scientific Point of View & Youth" and 2) AIDS Awareness Workshop by Dr. Aasha Hedge, Programme Officer, Thane (NACO) on 16th January 2010. Around 245 students from various colleges participated in workshop.

Yoga Club

Yoga Club organized yoga classes for students, teachers and non-teaching staff of V.P.M.Institutes, with the support from Shri Ambika Yoga Kutir, Thane. This year we conducted classes in 4 batches for Jr.Colllege, Dr. College and NCC cadets from1st July 2009. 119 students including 80 girls completed the yoga course.

Women's Development cell

Women development cell had organized lecture on 19th December 2009 at 11.00 a.m. in Patanjali Sabhagruha by Ms. Mangala Padhye activist of Stree Mukti Sanghatana on the topic "Rights of Women".

Head of the Physics department Mr. V.D. Golatkar retired on 30th Nov. 2009. Send off function was arranged by Staff academy.

Alumni Association

·Congratulations! Kedar Bhat our Past student has won second place in the Landscapes and Plants category, Pro division of 2009 National Wildlife Photo Contest. This year's
contest winners were drawn from nearly 70,000 entries (the largest pool in contest history) and three rounds of judging.
·Alumni - meet of 1984 batch students was arranged on 25th December 2009 in Pantanjali Sabhagruha to celebrate Silver - Jublee of graduation year. Mr. Girish Tilve, Mr. Nitin Shinde, Mr. Sunder organized this meet. Fourty five students actively participated in this meet. Mr Mayuresh Dhond and Ms. Alpana (from USA) were online on video for the interaction throughout the programme. From this group of students a donation of Rs. 40,000/- was given to VPM for giving Endownment Prizes to the toppers at T.Y.B.Sc. class in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Botany and Zoology.

  1. A "Career Melava" was organized for the students of junior college on 20th and 21st Nov 2009.

2. Community/ Social service- given by Students and faculty

i) The amount earned by I.T. students while helping the college for Online Admissions, was donated to 'Balika Bhavan', an NGO working for Orphan Girls.

ii) Our S.Y.B.Sc (MS group) students are rendering their services to "Sobati" the centre of Disabled children

iii) Mrs. M. J. Gholba is working on project of "Solid Waste Management" run by Samarth Bharat Vyaspith in association with T.M.C.
