Inaugural lectures were arranged
for S.Y.B.Sc. and T.Y.B.Sc students on 14th June 2006 -on the
first day of reopening of college and for F.Y. B.Sc. students
on 11th July 2006, to explain the rules and regulations of the
college and facilities provided by the college with the use
of audio-visuals.
The inaugural function was
held on July 28, 2006. The chief guest was our Ex-Student Mr.
Gitesh Shinde. He and his friends have formed a group called
'Prism Arts' which was the main attraction of the show. They
presented the program 'Kavita Manamanachi'-a collection of poems
of well known poets.
The workshop on 'Bridal makeup
& use of cosmetics' was arranged on August 29, 2006. Ms.
Mahananda Lingare cosmetologist was the adviser. They gave practical
demonstration of various methods for skin care. A bridal makeup
and hair style competition was also arranged.
Annual gathering 'Aakanksha',
had an artistic start from December 20, 2006 with mehendi, hairstyle
and bridal make up, bride groom make up rangoli, fine arts competitions.
On December 21-22, 2006, the events conducted were salad Making,
flower arrangement, Love letter writing, essay writing, poster
making, cartooning, greeting cards, dance, fashion show, personality
contest, antakshari, instrumental, mimicry, monoacting, solo
duet singing, dance solo, group song etc. Total 214 students
participated in all these events. This festival came to an end
on 23rd December 2006 with Ramp Walk by teaching & non teaching
staff and volunteers of cultural association.
Dramatics
This year our students participated
in one act play competition organized by INT. The students performed
very well. The name of the one act play was 'BAAP'.
Throughout the year the wallpapers
were displayed based on certain themes like poems, essays and
articles on topics like bomb blasts, social issues, social discourse
etc. Cartoon competition, short story competitions were arranged
through this committee.
The cover page competition was
organized for Sanyuja in which the photograph of Everest taken
by Mr. Shantanu Kulkarni (SYJC) was selected for cover page.
The entries of cover page other than winning photo were displayed
on the notice board.
The magazine got over whelming
response for all the activities. On January 17, 2007, the magazine
"Sanyuja" was published at the hands of our past student,
a well known Business Woman, Ms. Smita Pethe. It is full of
reports of various committees, many articles, poems in Marathi,
Hindi and English. Our students met some of the past students
to share their views. These interviews are published in our
magazine, which are more inspiring.
An essay competition was organized
on July 27, 2006. 29 students participated in the same. Mrs.
F.Luiz (English) Mr. A.D. Athawale (Hindi) and Mr. B.S.Dhumale
(Marathi) worked as judges.
Two students from our college namely Goutam S.
Padohilal and Pratik Khanvilkar participated in Canara Bank centenary
Quiz competition.
Debate and elocution competition was organized
on August 10, 2006 Mr. S.K.Bhosale (Foundation Course), Mr. A.D.
Athawale (Hindi) and Ms. F. Luiz (English) worked as judges. Total
11 students participated in same.
Department of Student Welfare University of Mumbai
organized inter collegiate quiz, Poetry, Debate Competitions in
which 4 students participated. Poetry and Story Telling Competitions
were arranged on 7th September 2006. 11 students participated
in it.
Our college was selected as a centre for the
Inter collegiate Elocution competition arranged by Zilla Parishad
on account of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja day on 11th September 2006.
13 students from different colleges participated along with 3
from our college. Two students from our college bagged the prizes
in the same.
Three students from our college participated
in Inter collegiate Quiz competition-Infinity organized by Jhunjhunwala
College Ghatkopar.
Six students participated in Intercollegiate
poetry competition organized by Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangha.
Three students participated in Late Panditrao
Smruti elocution competition 2006.
A written Quiz competition was organized on November
09, 2006. Total 56 students participated in it.
Eight students were selected for Mumbai Marathi
Sahitya Sangh Poetry Competition to read poems.
This year for children's science
congress the theme declared is "Biodiversity". Hence
a number of schools from Thane city requested us to guide them
in various projects.
Guidance was given to the students from following schools.

The projects were on various topics
such as insects, fishes, mangroves, flora of Yeoor, relation between
leaves and plants, lake biodiversity, palms, leaves used as Ganpati
patri etc.
College school complex committee every year helps the schools
in Thane city to prepare their students for competitive examinations
like Homi Bhabha Junior scientist examination. This year for these
students a practical session was arranged in the month of September
and guidance for viva was arranged on 14th Feb. 2007.
This
year we are happy to announce that after a gap of many years our
cricket team participated in University Intercollegiate Tournaments.
Nineteen students from our college had taken net practice for
a period of two months under the able guidance of well known Cricket
Coach Mr. Shashikant Naik. Our cricket team though not successful,
showed good performance in the game. We hope to be in a better
position within next few years.
Indoor games like carrom, chess,
table tennis and badminton tournaments were arranged in the month
of December 2006.
College annual sports Athletic Meet
was conducted on December 20, 2006 at College Ground. Junior &
Degree college, boys & girls participated in the 100 mts,
200 mts, 400 mts, and 800 mts Running, Shot-put, Discus Throw
and Long Jump events. In all, there were 60 participants in these
tournaments.
Our students participated in Badminton,
Table Tennis, Chess, Swimming (Aquatics), Taekewando, Gymnastics,
Rifle Shooting and Cricket at intercollegiate level.
Our team has secured 2nd place in
Inter Collegiate Chess Tournament from 3rd Zone in Thane District.
We have conducted carrom for Ladies
and Gents, Table tennis for Gents and Friendship Table Tennis
for Ladies teaching staff. We also had 100 mts run for Gents teaching
staff. For the non-teaching staff we had conducted Carrom, Chess
and 100 mts run tournaments. Among these Carrom, Friendship Table
Tennis matches for Ladies teachning staff, 100 mts. run for teaching
and non-teaching staff were new events this year.
The social activities
of NSS students are given below
Tree Plantation and checking the survival of
planted trees Repeatedly along with NGO Hariyali at Dindeshwar,
Thane.
Independence day celebrations: 890 flags made
by the NGO, Hitech Family Enrichment Foundation, were sold and
the amount collected was given to the NGO.
Blood Donation DriveThe students and teachers
donated 130 bottles of Blood at College campus in Collaboration
with Sir J. J. group of Hospitals, Byculla,
Volunteer during Ganapati immersion at Masunda
lake.
At Shantivan development in trees were reinforced
with mud and pits were made for putting water and fertilizers.
A small communal harmony was arranged by Sarvoday
Mandal College Campus.Exposure bund was made at Shantivan, Nere
Village Panvel Navi Mumbai.

Workshop was attended workshop on Visit To tribal
and Kashthakari Sangathana Dahanu Mathadi Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.
Yoga Club organizes yoga classes
for students teachers and non-teaching staff of V.P.M. Institutes,
with the support from Shri Ambika Yoga Kutir, Thane. This year
classes were held from July to September (every Wednesday and
Saturday) and from November to January (every Wednesday and Saturday)
Total 100 students, staff of science as well as arts and commerce
college participated in the programme
Women cell arranged a
lecture on "Empowered Women" by Dr. Mrs. Nandini Deshmukh
VicePrincipal and HOD Zoology Kirti College Dadar on 18th July
2006. In her lecture she emphasized on female foeticide issue
in our country. She also explained in a very interesting way,
how women are physically and mentally stronger than men due to
double X chromosome in the nucleus. The talk depicted the achievements
of women in various areas.
Lecture on "Nutritional Diet"
by Dr. Mrs. Chaya Bhadkamkar were arranged on 10th Aug 2006 and
on 18th Aug. 2006. She explained to the students in a very innovative
way, the importance of various nutrients like Iron, Calcium, Proteins
in our diet and the way we should develop our food habits to live
a normal and healthy life. All the students were very much impressed
by her lecture
Our college has Employment cell
through which we guide the students for placement. Letters from
various companies and institutes looking for suitable graduates
were displayed on the special notice board 'Grab It'. Also campus
interviews of various companies were arranged. Details are as

Through Staff Academy we arrange send-off functions
for our retired staff.
Staff academy organized the send off functions
of four staff members who retired namely Mr. R.S.Poddar, Mr. Mohan
Pathak, Mr. M.H.Dixit, Mr. P.N.Singh.
A programme named Cocktail was organized on 11th
Oct. 2006 where Mr. Makarand Joshi was invited who presented a
delightful comedy show in front of the teachers.
Dr. Kishor Theckedatta was invited to deliver
a lecture on challenges before teachers in the era of globalization,
in Nov. 2006
A lecture of Dr. Vijay Bedekar Chairman of Vidya
Prasarak Mandal was arranged on January 15, 2007 on the topic
'India-Freedom Fight - Residence London'. Through staff Academy
we felicitate the staff who have achieved excellence in their
field or in society. This year
Dr. V.V.Bedekar Chairperson Vidya Prasarak Mandal
was felicitated for being awarded the fellowship of 'The Royal
Asiatic society of Great Britan and Ireland'. on September 28,
2006. Thane Municipal Corporation also awarded him with 'Thane
Gaurav' puraskar, on Oct. 01, 2006.
Our Principal Dr.(Ms.) M. K. Pejaver was felicitated
for being awarded with "Thane Gaurav" by Thane Municipal
Corporation on October 01, 2006 for her extraordinary work in
the field of environment.
Mr.P.S.Mali teacher from chemistry (Jr. College)
was felicitated for getting two awards.
1. 'State level Best Teacher award'
by Indian Art culture and Talent development center.
2. 'Nyayik Ladha Gaurav Award' by
Nyayik Ladha Patrakar Seva Sanstha, Thane.
Dr. K.M.Pariya was felicitated for getting his
Ph.D. degree in Zoology from University of Mumbai.
Dr. N.S.Tekale was felicitated for being invited
at Durban, University of Technology, for a talk on 'Satyagraha
A Propeace Agenda'.
A programme of Haladi-Kumkum on Sankranti day,
was arranged by ladies wing of staff academy on Jan 15, 2007 where
all ladies were invited and flowers and Tilgul was distrubuted.
A pathological check up camp was arranged for
staff members, their relatives and friends. In this the tests
related to Lipid profile, renal profile, liver profile, Kid leak,
Thyroid and infectious diseases were performed. We got a good
response for the camp.
The hike to Irshal was arranged on 6th August 06. Irshal is situated
in the Sahyadri ranges. Thirty four students from junior and senior
college attended the hike. Staff members, Mrs. K. R. Karbhari
and Mr. Sunil Bhusara accompanied the students. This year it rained
heavily and the fog was also very dense. Through the rain and
fog, the team reached to Irshalwadi and then to Morbe Dam. While
coming back the downslope was slippery due to rains. The train
services were collapsed. The group had to spend a night at Karjat.
But that's the spirit of adventure which teaches a person more
than a book. They all reached home safely next day that is 7th
August 2006.
After the discussions in the staff meetings,
Parent-Teacher association Mentor System has be adopted in the
college. We have allotted a group of 25-30 students to each teacher.
The teacher has to take meetings, collect information about the
family background, personal background of students and give personal
counseling, if needed, to the students. We are happy to mention
that the students responded very well for this system.
We conducted Medha Samskar training programs
for our Junior College students. This will help them to concentrate
in their studies, increase memory.
Sad demise of Mr.D.G.Sarangdhar occurred on Nov.
19, 2006 for which condolence meeting was held in which all teaching
and non teaching staff were present.
Non Teaching Staff union also arranges the send
off function for retiring staff. Send off function for Mr.K.Y.Shirke,
Mr.N.V.Paranjpe, Mrs.S.R.Shejwalkar, Mr.S.V.Joshi, Mr.K.B.Dethe,
Mr. H.G.Sarangdhar, Mr.T.B.Giri were arranged

about contact lens care was organized by our past students Ms.
Shradha Ganu & Mr. Sameer Ganu proprietor of the shop-Modern
Opticians. Free trial was given to the students.
A One-Act Play named "Johar-Mai-Baap"
written by our past student Mr. Viju Mane was performed at INT
competitions, which received a great appreciation from judges.
A Marathi Film "Gojiri" was released
in November 2006. Our past student Mr. Viju Mane has written and
directed this movie. Our present student Ms. Devyani Deshmukh
of T.Y.B.Sc. has acted in this film.
The association on Saturday, August 19, 2006
organized KATHA- KATHAN programme. Our Ex- student Shri. Shashank
Rasal narrated two stories written by famous Marathi writer Shri
V.P.Kale.The first story (Char divas Amitabh che -Char divas Chintu
che) caught the imagination of the audience. While the second
story, a fantasy regarding the Peshwa ruler opting for a job in
Municipal Corporation left the audience spellbound.

in the field) narrated two stories written by famous Marathi

While the second story, a fantasy regarding the Peshwa ruler
opting for a job in Municipal Corporation left the audience
spellbound. Earlier Prof Mrs. V.V.Mahajan gave the brief introduction
of Shri. Shashank Rasal. Our College Principal Dr (Mrs.)Madhuri
Pejaver gave a fitting speech and impressed upon the students
the need of having Alumni association. A large number of students
and non teaching staff attended the function.
