Academics

• Ms Minakshi Gurav, (Zoology) a student of Dr Ms M.K. Pejaver was awarded Ph. D. degree in June 2009 by Mumbai University.
• Ms Gayatri Sagade (Zoology) a student of Dr Ms M.K. Pejaver was awarded M.Sc by Research degree in April 2009 by Mumbai University.

• Paper and Poster Presentation:
  1. Ms. Sanghamitra R. Matil- PhD. Student (Dept of Botany) received first Prize in oral presentation entitled "Jewel Orchid… A True Gem among the Orchids" in UGC Sponsored Two Day National Conference on Orchid genetic diversity: Conservation & Commercialization organized by Department of Botany, VPM's B. N. Bandodkar College of Science, Thane
  2. Kute,S., Sawant,S., Pawade, N., Dokhe,K., Oak, G. and Nyahale, A. got 1st Prize in poster presentation entitled "Economic importance of Vanilla Orchid" in UGC Sponsored Two Day National Conference on Orchid genetic diversity: Conservation & Commercialization organized by Department of Botany, VPM's B. N. Bandodkar College of Science, Thane.

• Our students participated in intercollegiate competition held at NES Ratnam college, Bhandup on 26th Sept. 2009.
  1. Ms Devyani Bakre and Prajakta Jain (S.Y.B.Sc) won 1st prize in poster competition. Her topic was"Swine Flu".
  2. Mr Ameya Pawar and Ms Priyanka Pagare(S.Y.B.Sc) won 3rd prize in poster competition. Topic was "Ground Water Management".
  3. Ms Sonal Bagave,Ms Dipali Patil ,MsRehmat Pandhare won 3rd prize in poster competition. Topic was SCID Gene Therapy.

• Our students also participated in intercollegiate poster competition held at Khalsa College, on 31st Oct. 2009. Ms Ruchita Surve and Deepali Patil (F.Y.B.Sc) won 2nd prize in poster presentation. Topic was "Wealth from waste"

  Participation in Conferences / Seminars / Workshops

  1. Department of Botany, organized two day UGC-sponsored National Conference on "Orchid Genetic Diversity: Conservation and Commercialization" on 11th and 12th December 2009 this was attended by many students of our college.
  2.Ms. Resma B. Patil, student of S. Y. B.Sc. presented 'Orchid: Insect Pests and Their management'.
  3.Ms. Jyoti R. Dharvin, student of S.Y. B. Sc. Presented 'Hydroponic technology for commercial orchid cultivation'.
  4.Mr. Omkar Thorat, student of T. Y. B. Sc. Botany gave a presentation about 'Fungal diseases of Orchids'.

• · The first preparatory workshop "Orchid Genetic Diversity: Servation and Commercialization" was conducted on 8th August, 2009 at Thorle Bajirao Peshwe auditorium.

• · The second preparatory workshop "Orchid Genetic Diversity: Conservation & Commercialization" was conducted on 19th September 2009 at Patanjali, B. N. Bandodkar College of Science, Thane.

• · On August 22, 2009, being Birth Centenary Year of Dr. Homi Bhabha, B. N. Bandodkar College of Science, Thane, in collaboration with BARC (BhabhaAtomic Research Center) organized seminar on "New Vistas in Research in Physics".

• · Library organized One Day Seminar on "Reengineering of Libraries" on 27 November 2009.

• · Three Day Workshop for M.L.I.Sc students was conducted on 19th December to 21st December . Dr Hindurao Wayadande, Sr Asst Librarian, IIT, Powai & Mr Bhaskarrao Thorat, Librarian, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Funde, Uran were the Subject expert for the same. In all 23 students have presented one Research Paper and also submitted the Project Synopsis.

Cultural Activities

• Students' participation in inter collegiate events: about 20 students from our college participated in intercollegiate competitions organised by Mumbai University as part of Youth Festival at Adarsh College, Badlapur
  Mr.Krunal Bhosale from S.Y.B.Sc. won
  1. Third Prize in Mono Acting Competition at Adarsh College, Badlapur .
  2. First prize in mono acting in intercollegiate competition festival "Vibes" organised by K.J.Somaya College, Ghatkoer.
  3. Consolation prize in mono acting Zep 2009 conducted by Ratnam College.
  4. First prize in "Talk till 60 Ticks" English extempore competition in SIES College, Nerul.
  Mr.Siddheshwar Koli won
  1)Second Prize in Candal Carving and
  2) Second Prize in Canvas Painting competition in SIES College, Nerul.

• Our students participated in competition festival "Dimension" organised by Kelkar college, Mulund Following students bagged the prizes.
  · Mr.Krunal Bhosale from S.Y.B.Sc. won First prize in Gazal competition.
  · Kedar Kale Secured first prize in press conference, Best Celebrity
  · Shalaka Deshpande secured 3rd prize in instrumental
  · Swapnil Vichare and Sheetal Sakpal won the second prize in instrumental
  · Miss. Shalaka Deshpande and Mr. Vinit Kunte won the firstprize in Bio-Quiz
  · Ms. Shruti Shrotri won the 1st prize in painting competition at Ruia College
  
• Events organized by college:
  1.The inaugural function of the activities of Cultural Association for the academic year 2008-2009 was organised on 30th July 2009. The chief guest for the function was Prof. Ashok Bagwe, a well known Marathi poet.
  2. A special programme on Marathi Poetry "Shravan-sari" was organised by the students. In this programme, students as well as teaching and non teaching staff presented their poems. 250 students attended this programme.
  3.Friendship Day was celebrated on 3rd August 2009 in different way. There was direct interaction between teachers and students on different issues
  4.A Light Vocal Singing competition for college students was conducted on 17th September 2009. Mr. Nikhil Bhoir from F.Y.B.Sc. won the first prize. The judges for this competition were Mrs. Kirti Aagashe and Ms. Indumati Pethe.
  5.On 15th December 2009 a highly motivating and inspiring speech was given by Prof. Pravin Davane a well known Marathi Poet and Writer on Youth Day.
  6.This year students had selected "Global Warming" as main theme for Aakanksha. A power point presentation by Dr. Sanjay Joshi from Biology Department of our college was organised on Global Warming on Animal Welfare Day.
  7.As part of Aakanksha various indoor events such as Rangoli, Bride and Bride Groom Make up, Mehendi, Hair Styling, Flower Arrangement, Salad Making, Poster Paintnig, Cartoon Drawing, Photography, Love letter writing etc. were organized on 21,22,and23rd December2009. Akanksha was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Meghana Joshi, who is script writer and is working as Assistant Director for Marathi Serials and Films.
  8.Mr. Sourabh Sohoni from S.Y.J.C. was selected as "Mr. Bandodkar" where as Miss. Gretta D'Souza from T.Y.B.Sc. I.T. was selected as "Miss Bandodkar" in personality contest. Mrs. Meghana Joshi was the judge for this event.

Literary Association

Students' participation in inter collegiate events: Eight students participated in various intercollegiate Essay/ Elocution / Poetry recitation competitions.
1. Diksha.R.Kharat received Consolation Prize in Vikalpavedh Intercollegiate Essay Competition held on 16th Oct 2009.
2. Rupesh.M.Gogawale won the first prize in the Poetry Recitation Competition held at N.E.S's Ratnam College of Arts Commerce and Science Bhandup on 19th Nov. 2009.

SPORTS

Indoor Activities were conducted from 27th November 2009 to 5 th January 2010. Annual Sports Meet was organized on 21 st December 2009 on college ground. Students participated in various events. The Prize distribution ceremony was organized on 18th Jan 2010.

N.S.S.

Our NSS students volunteers participated in various University Level, Area based and College level activities.
1. 10th - 11th July: Seminar on Vasundhara Bachao was arranged by NSS Cell, University of Mumbai at Gadakari Rangayatan, Thane.
2. 12th Aug. 09: Yuvak Melava at Civil Hospital, Thane.
3. 1st Oct. 09: AIDS Awareness Rally arranged at Civil Hospital, Thane.
4. 2nd Oct. 09: Gandhi Peace March - The rally held on International Day of Non - Violence at Azad Maidan, Churchgate, by NSS cell, University of Mumbai in association with Sarvodaya Mandal, Ghatkopar.
5. 15th Oct. 09: Peace Rally was conducted at Somaiya College, Vidya Vihar by NSS Cell, University of Mumbai.
6. From 14th June 2009 to 20th Nov.09 :Saplings preparation and post plantation care activities conducted through trekking at Kasarvadavali and Kajupada, Ghodbunder, Thane was conducted on every Sundays in association with Hariyali, Thane.
7. On 20th Sept. 09 & 27th Sept. 09: Watershed development project studied at Bhavale Lonad forest at Bhiwandi in association with Hariyali.
8. Blood donation camp was arranged in association with Rotary Club of Kanjurmarg in the college campus on 15th Sept. 09 and 48 Bottles of Blood collected Blood donated to J.J.Hospital, Mumbai..
9. Celebration of NSS DAY was arranged at Patanjali Auditorium in the college on 24th Sept. 09. Dr. (Mrs.) Bhavana Motwani from CHM College, Ulhasnagar conducted Personality Development Workshop and NSS Rally was also arranged in college campus.
10. From 23rd Oct. to 25th Oct.2009: seminar was arranged on Gender Equality by Akshara in the college.
11. On 29th Oct. 09: Pathways of Excellence seminar and on 9th Nov. 09: Exposure Rally was arranged by Akshara at Govandi.
12. On 15th Nov. 09 Seminar on "Life Reborn" - Dwij Puraskar by Dr. Anand Nadkarni was arranged at Gadkari Auditorium, Thane.
13. Special Residential Camp was arranged at Waphe nursery, Shahapur, Asangaon from 25th Dec.09 to 31st Dec. 09 during this camp development of Butterfly Garden was undertaken.
14. Jointly in association with Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti & National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Thane, NSS organized
a) Inter Collegiate Workshop on "Scientific Point of View & Youth" and
b) AIDS Awareness Workshop by Dr. Aasha Hedge, Programme Officer, Thane (NACO) on 16th January 2010. Around 245 students from various colleges participated in workshop.
