PAPER – I : Basic Statistics

1.       Introduction, data and its type. Representation of data, Diagrammatic representation of data.

2.       Measures of central tendency – Mean, Median, Mode

Measures of dispersion : Range, Standard deviation, Co efficient of variation

      Moments. Measures of skew ness, Kurtosis based on moments

3.       Bi-variate data, correlation, multivariate data : partial and multiple correlation

4.       Probability : definition, addition and multiplication rules, discrete and continuous r.v.s., Binomial, Poisson, exponential, normal distribution

5.       Sampling distribution of sample mean, sample proportion

6.       Concept of t, F, Chi-square distribution

7.       Testing of hypothesis.

i)                    Large sample test, small sample test for sample mean and sample proportion

ii)                   Test for correlation coefficient

iii)                 Chi-square test for independence of attributes

iv)                 Chi-square test for goodness fit

8.       Analysis of variance CRD, RBD

9.       Linear regression

      Bivariate and multivariate regression. Coefficient of determination  , Logistic Regression Model.

10.   Estimation.

Point and internal estimation for population mean, population proportion, population variance

 

PAPER – II  

SEC – I :

  1. Mathematics of finance : simple and compound interest. Present value, annuities, present value of annuity. NPV (Net Present Value). Internal rate of return (IRR). Discounted pay back period.

Nominal and effective rates of interest. Varying rates of interest. Equation of value. Equated time of payment. The investment and risk characteristics.

 

 

  1. Time series analysis / forecasting.
  2.  Quality control:

  Principles of control. Process quality control of attributes and variables. Sampling plans   

  and sampling system.

SEC – II : Optional  (Any one)

        1) Clinical trials:

         2) Actuarial Science

         3) Statistical validation for analytical purpose

          4) Financial  Analysis

          5) Marketing  Research.

              

Ø      Practicals based on the topics using statistical package on computers and Project.
