Scope, importance n classification of vegetable cultivation in Maharashtra and their post harvest technology

Ø      Five Star Vegetables :

Scope, importance, cultivation practices n post harvest technology of : Brokoli, Parsely, Capsicum, Iceberg, Celery and Baby corn

Ø      Fruits :

Scope, importance n classification of fruit cultivation in Maharashtra and their post harvest technology

Ø      Spices :

Scope n importance of spices, cultivation in Maharashtra and post harvest technology of: Black pepper, Coriander, Ginger, All spice & Bixa

Ø      Concept of organic farming : Vermi composting

Ø      Mushroom cultivation

Ø      Agro tourism

Ø      Agro forestry and Orchard

Ø      Bio-diesel : Jatropa cureas

FLORICULTURE, AROMATIC & MEDICINAL PLANTS, HERBAL COSMETICS:

Ø      Floriculture :

Scope n importance of floriculture in India. Cultivation practices, harvesting, pest management and post harvest technology of : Marigold, Rose, Aster, Gladiolus, Mogra, Gerbera, Carnation, Chrysanthemum, Orchid, Adenium and Anthurium

Ø      Tissue culture technique and micro-propogation in floriculture

Ø      Cut flower technology

Ø      Polyhouse technology

Ø      Aromatic Plants :

Scope n importance of aromatic plants, Cultivation practices, harvesting, pest management and post harvest technology of : Patchouli, Geranium, Vetiver and Ocimum

 

Ø      Medicinal Plants :

Scope n importance of medicinal plants. Cultivation practices, harvesting, pest management and post harvest technology of: Safed musali, Stewia, Ashwagandha, Sarphagandha and Adhatoda

Ø      Opportunities in herbal medicine and aromatic plants

Ø      Plants having cosmetic value :

Scope n importance of herbal plants. Cultivation practices, harvesting, pest management and post harvest technology of : Aloe vera, Brahmi, Nagarmotha and Heena

Ø      Insecticides and growth promoters of herbal origin

Ø      Promotion of Ayurveda through horticulture

 

PAPER – III

NURSERY DEVELOPMENT, LANDSCAPING AND GARDENING

Ø      Nursery Development:

Concept of nursery and its types with special reference to Palms, Cactus, Fern and Roses. Greenhouse plants in nursery, Ornamental hedges, Creepers, Climbers, Ground covers, Hangings, Gymnosperms, Labeling and exhibition of plants, Forest nursery (Orchard)

Ø      Economics of Nursery set up and management

Ø      Landscaping : Concept, importance, components and maintenance of landscape. Types and uses of material such as Sand, Stones, Marbles, Beads, River pebbles, Bricks and Bamboo sticks in landscape designs. Plants suitable for landscape, various designs and avenue trees

Ø      Gardening :

Concept, importance and maintenance of gardens. Their types such as Kitchen garden, Terrace garden, Water garden and Rock garden

Ø      Indoor plant technology

Ø      Exotics

1)           Study of garden tools and implements

3)           Propogation methods of plants by stem cutting

4)           Rose Grafting

5)           Preparation of seed bed and growth of seedlings

6)           Preparation of rows and furrows and sowing of Okara

7)           Types of soil, their pH and amendment methods

8)           Moisture content and water holding capacity of soil

9)           Classification of fertilizers, Liquid fertilizers

10)       Classification of pest and common diseases to hortucultural plants

11)       Classification of insecticides and their mode of preparation
