NOTE ON THE FORTHCOMING SEMINAR
You are aware that VPM, Thane has launched its London Academy of Education
and Research on Tuesday, 27th May, 2009 at Brunei Hall, SOAS, London, U.K.
On the said occasion we conducted a Workshop on “Global Meltdown –
Lessons To Be Learnt” which was received very well by the audience.
There was an audience of nearly 100 persons from different professions viz.
entrepreneurs, senior managers of industries in the U.K., representatives
from London School of Economics, young professionals from the IT World as
well as other fields. Encouraged by the response to the said Workshop
and the feedback received from people from different walks of life in London,
we have taken the initiative of announcing the second Workshop in London on
Tuesday, 27th October, 2009 in the evening from 5.30
pm to 9.30 pm.
The Workshop
will be conducted on the following two themes:-
1.Corporate Social
Responsibilities (CSR)
2.Fraud Management and Control
CSR is an important theme trying to tell businesses
that profit is not the end objective of business though maximising return on shareholder
investment is important. Extra commercial issues like contributing to social welfare
should also be part of corporate agenda. The Workshop will aim at addressing,
amongst other things, the genesis of CSR, the global scenario and the concepts
and practices in companies in U.S., Europe and other continents with respect to
CSR, the role of corporates in sustaining the environment and other important
aspects like institutionalisation of CSR and the migration from philanthropy to
community investment and poverty alleviation.
Fraud
Management and Control has become an important dimension of management
all over the World. The process of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation
coupled with the IT revolution has resulted in a dynamic, seamless and fast changing
business scenario. There are newer technologies and opportunities for various
frauds viz. cheating, embezzlement, larceny, forgery, robbery and a variety of
other delinquencies limited only by the genius of the perverted. In addition,
the IT revolution has created a new opportunity for cyber crime via the Internet.
Fraud Management and Control will address important issues like identifying a
comprehensive and integrated approach towards fraud risk analysis and management,
implementing an effective whistle-blowing program while stressing on reward and
policy and ways and means of strengthening the anti-fraud movement.
Each theme will be discussed for about two hours. Initial
presentations
for about an hour will be followed by an
interactive session for another
hour.
The speakers will include:-
1. Dr. Guruprasad
Murthy, Director-General, Dr. V. N. Bedekar Institute of Management Studies, Thane
2. Dr. Vishnu Kanhere, Practising Chartered Accountant
We expect an audience of 100 persons. Interested persons will have to register
