Youth festival 2011-12

Students of our college participated in ‘44th intercollegiate Youth Festival Cultural Competitions 2011-12’.

Selection rounds for all the events were held on 19th August, 2011 at CHM College, Ulhasnagar. Our students performed superbly and have been qualified in 15 events by securing first position in 9 events, second position in 5 events and third position in 1 event.

25th July 2011: Staff Academy

 

Staff Academy organized a programme on ‘Voice Care’ on 25th July 2011 at 11.30 am. in Kattyayan. Dr. Ashesh C. Bhumkar E.N.T. Surgeon and Mrs. Sonali Lohar speech therapist were the speakers for the occasion. They gave us valuable information and guidance to take care of our voices, as teachers suffer the most because of the nature of our job.

20th July 2011 : Arts Circle


The Arts Circle was inaugurated by our Principal, Dr. Mrs. Shakuntala A. Singh on 20th July 2011.

Students of SYJC Arts and Commerce gave dance, song and instrumental performances. Different art forms were illustrated with the help of slides. A clipping from the movie ‘Harish Chandrachi Factory’ was shown to represent film making as an art. A short film prepared by two students of Junior College based on the theme ‘Mumbai’ was also shown Principal Dr. Singh and Vice Principal Mrs. Tirmare addressed the students on the occasion.

 

16th  July 2011 : Under the umbrella of Counselling Cell

Under the umbrella of Counselling Cell, sensitization wing has been initiated 16th  July 2011. The wing has been named as ‘Manthan’ by the

The aim of ‘Manthan’ group in to sensitize students about various social issues.
The cell is planning to make use of some off beat techniques to achieve this . (Like Social visits to NGOs, screening of films followed by discussions.
As a first step in this direction ‘Manthan’ screened a film titled  ‘कचरा व्यूह’ directed by Mr. Atul Pethe. The film is on the issue of solid waste and the plight of screngers in Pune.
It was followed by the discussion ,Dr. Mrs. S.A. Singh and Prof. Aparna Phadake initiated dialogue and guided students.

The film was very well attended and received with great sensitivity by students.

Department of Geography
The department of Geography organized ‘Library – Orientation’ for the students of TYBA (Geography) on Friday, July 15th 2011 at 8.30 am.
Students were made acquainted with the ‘OPAC System’ and its operation. Students were informed about the ‘Reference section’ and Research section of the library.
Students came to know about various books, Reference-books, Atlases, CD’s, Magazines, Journals etc. related to the subject of Geography.

Students were guided by Prof. S.N. Barse and his team.

 

9th July 2011 (Jr. College- Speaker’s Academy)


The Jr. College Speaker’s Academy was inaugurated on 9th July 2011by Journalist Mr. Ravindra Manjarekar. He marked the inauguration by giving a topic for debate competition to be conducted later:- “ Do social networking sites help to bridge communication gap or widen it?”

He guided the students on how to develop oratory skills. He gave 6 tenets to be remembered while giving public speech. They were extensive reading, conviction, confidence, presentation, apt language, preparation etc

5th July 2011 (Generation Dialogue-Junior College)


“ Today new generation is catered with luxurious life style but even then they should not forget priority of nation’s security and join military to face any eventuality”. Smt. Anuradha Gore an ideal teacher and ‘Veer Mata’ award winner appealed to Arts and Commerce Junior college, students  in the inaugural function of ‘Generation Dialogue’ held on 5th July 2011.
The function was chaired by Principal Dr. Mrs. Shakuntala A. Singh in the presence of supervisor Shri P.H. Bachhav

Dr. Mrs. Singh explained importance of ‘Generation Dialogue’ as to bridge the gap between  two  generations.

Mrs. Sandhya Vaidya introduced Smt. Gore and her highly devoted life for education. Mrs. Gauri Zope proposed vote of thanks and student Ms. Komal Bapat anchored the programme.

2nd pre conference workshop on “Development of India through Microfinance” was held on 30th Nov. 2010. Mr. B.B. Mohanty EXCGM of NABARD and Mr. Jayprakash Deshpande EXMD of NK GSB Bank were the resource person of the conference. Six papers were presented on the occasion.

The Sanskrit Samvradhini Mandal of our college organised Sanskrit Day Programme on 31.07.10. The students presented dance & drama on the topic "Heroins of Kalidas". It was followed by Sanskrit Drama - कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते

सन २००९ ह २०१० या शैक्षणिक वर्षात मराठी भाषा विभागातर्फे पुढील कार्यक्रम आयोजित करण्यात आले. मराठी भाषा विभागातर्फे तृतीय वर्ष कला आणि द्वितीय वर्ष कला शाखेच्या विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी 'महाविद्यालयीन ग्रंथालयाचा सदर्भ व अध्ययनासाठी कसा वापर करावात या विषयावर  ग्रंथपाल, प्रा. एन. एस. बारसे यांच्या व्यख्यानाचे आयोजन १२ जुलै २०१० रोजी करण्यात आले होते. या व्याख्यानाचा अनेक विद्यार्थ्यानी लाभ घेतला. यावेळी मराठी विभाग प्रमुख प्रा. दामोदर मोरे, प्रा. अनिल भाबड अणि प्रा. संतोष राणे उपस्थित होते.

 विद्यार्थाचा अभ्यास योग्य दिशेने व्हावा, त्यांची मते क्लावीत, आपल्या पाल्याची प्रगति पालकांना कलावी यासाठी अनेक पालक सभांचे आयोजन करण्यात आले. या पालकसभेला महाविद्यालयाच्या प्राचार्या डॉ. शकुंतला सिंग ह्यांनी मार्गदर्शन केले. विद्यार्थ्यांच्या  समस्या अडचणी समजून घेतल्या. पालक सभेच्या निमित्ताने प्राचार्यानी पालकांशी मनामोकला संवाद साधला. काही वर्षापूर्वी विद्यार्थी म्हणून महाविद्यालयात अध्ययन केलेल्या पालकांनी जुन्या आठवणी जागविल्या. कात्यायन सभागृहातील या पालक सभेतील पालकांच्या विविध प्रश्नांना मराठी विभाग प्रमुख प्रा. दामोदर मोरे अणि प्रा. अनिल भाबड यांनी योग्य उत्तरे देऊन पालकांचे समाधान केले. या पालक सभेप्रमाणेच तृतीय कला शाखेच्या वर्गातही पालक सभेचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते.

 द्वितीय वर्ष कलाशाखेच्या विद्यार्थ्यासाठी 'संत वारकरी वाड्मय (संतवाड्मय), वाड्मय (पंत) शाहिरी वाड्मय व बखर वाड्मय (तंत)' या विषयावर प्रा. डॉ. राधिका पारसनीस-गुप्ते (जोशी बेडेकर महाविद्यालय) यांच्या व्याख्यानाचे आयोजन २० फेब्रुवारी २०१० रोजी करण्यात आले होते. या व्याख्यानाचा विद्यार्थ्यांनी मनमुराद आनंद घेतला. आयोजित केलेले हे मार्गदर्शनपर व्याख्यानास विद्यार्थ्यांनी मनापासून दाद दिली. परीक्षेकडे त्या विषयाकडे बघण्याची सकारात्मक दृष्टी विद्यार्थांना प्राप्त झाली. असे विद्यार्थ्यांनी सांगितले. विद्यार्थी व्याख्यानाने फार प्रभावित झाले.

मराठी विभागातर्फे प्रथम वर्ष कला शाखेच्या विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी कात्यायन सभागृहात पु.ल. देशपांडे यांच्या 'ती फुलराणी' या गाजलेल्या नाटकावरील चित्रफित दाखविण्यात आली. चित्रफितीमुळे विद्यार्थी खूपच प्रभावित झाले. अभ्यासक्रमात असलेल्या या नाटकाची चित्रफित पाहिल्यामुळे खूपच फायदा झाल्याचे विद्यार्थ्यांनी सांगितले. विद्यार्थ्यांच्या ग्रहनशक्तीत वाढ व्हावी तसेच वाढावा यासाठी मराठी विभागातर्फे काही व्याख्याने ज्ञानपथावर घेण्यात आली.

Chrysalis 2010

The Self-Financing Section of our college once again organised Chryalis an inter-collegiate management festival with a legacy of seven years. The fest was solely organized by the students under the guidance of our principal Dr. (Mrs).S.A.Singh and the entire team of staff members from the self-financing course. This was its 8th year of glory and splendour with 25 sponsors and 16 events with a Campus Marathon being the highlight of the festival. The first time in college history ‘Chrysalis’ was pronounced as one of the top management festivals in Mumbai and Thane by our online media partner.  
The theme for this year festival was “Aamchi Mumbai” and dates finalised for the events were 21st, 22nd and 23rd January 2010.
The In house promotion of Chrysalis’10 began with decorations and artwork of chrysalis with its symbolic butterfly being put up everywhere. Just a couple of days before the fest the banners of our sponsors were displayed all over the campus.
The first day of chrysalis dawned bright and clear, with a 4km campus marathon run flagged off by our principal Dr.(Mrs).Shakuntala singh along with Dhiraj Mishra, who has represented India in triple jump and won gold medal for India at common wealth, youth games, Pune. Other sports events like Circle Cricket, Football, Carrom, Treasure hunt and fun games followed in succession thus testing the physical capacity of the future managers.
The second day of Chrysalis  Management Events like Quiz, Brain Teasers, Sudoku, Discovering Managers, Debate and Filmy Mela (documentaries) were conducted surfacing the best for the future managers.
Finally, the last day started with a seminar by experienced and competent personalities from media world,eminent speakers like Raghavendra Seth (GM of Prahaar),Chintamani Bhide (Chief-Editor of Prahaar),Bhushan Khot (Vice President of Zee 24x7),they spoke on ‘Media Management’.
The day concluded with events like Hot Stepper (Solo Dancer), Dance Mania (Group Dance), and Fashion Street (Fashion Show) all together marking the evening as ‘Chrys-Eve’ full of entertainment which saw celebrities of   upcoming movie ‘Ringa Ringa’ making their appearance adding to the glamour.
The chrys-eve also shared the proud moment of announcing the launch of the ‘The Veracity’ the 1st edition of our campus newspaper by the BMM dept, at the hands of Principal Dr. (Mrs). Shakuntala Singh, coordinator Prof.D.M.Murdeshwar and co-coordinator Prof. Namrataa Shrivastav followed by the prize distribution of the various events over the three days in which 28 colleges participated this year,along with a token of appreciation to chrysalite Prathamesh More who launched his 1st book the ‘Chords of College Life.’
I take this opportunity to extend my heartiest congratulations to each and every chrysalite for putting up such a wonderful and well managed festival.
I sincerely thank our principal Dr.Mrs.Shakuntala singh the guiding force behind this event, Vice Principals Dr.Padmini Murti and Mrs.Leela Bhat for their constant support and encouragement, I am also thankful to the office staff for their cooperation, Last but not the least I express my gratitude towards my coordinator Prof.D.M.Murdeshwar and my colleagues for their enthusiastic involvement for the smooth conduct of the event.

Navarang - 2009

 

Our college cultural festival Navrang was organized from 21st Dec. to 24th Dec. 2009. Many competition like Dance, Music, Rangoli, Creative arts, Quiz etc. were conducted.
Large number of students participated in these competition Ras Garbha was a great success where students, teachers and non-teaching staff enthusiastically participated Annual sports day was held on 22nd Dec. 2009 on the college ground. Many sports persons, teachers and supporting staff joined in the sports events. Body building was special event as always.
Mr. Mahesh Madkholkar, a renowned chartered accountant was the chief guest for the annual prize distribution function held on 24th Dec. 2009. Number of prizes including endowment prices were given to the deserving students.

‘Gandharva’ – 10 [MORE...] [PHOTOS]

‘Gandharva’ – 10

Joshi – Bedekar College organized the third intercollegiate cultural event, ‘Gandharva Mahotsav’ , successfully on 28th and 29th January 2010. The event was inaugurated by Shri. Abhijit Chavan – Alumni, and a renowned television artist.

‘Gandharva 10’ provided a platform for participants to explore and portray their talents. The festival featured several competitions for student fraternity as well as teachers. The events ranged from literary, creative, performing arts and sports based on this theme ‘India – 2010’. The theme was very well depicted by all the participants showing a fusion of traditional Indian essence with modern India in their performances.

Gandharva is a cultural festival where in students from various colleges, affiliated to University of Mumbai can participate and showcase their talents. This year we received excellent response from other colleges. Students from more than 40 colleges participated in various events and won prizes and Medals. Gandharva Mahotsav Committee decided to have two events for gurus, cooking (without fire) and solo singing. Teachers from other colleges participated in good number and appreciated the efforts.

For students participants, we had 14 events. ‘Body posing’ was a unique event, introduced in intercollegiate competitions for the first time. Quiz, debating, spelling bee, love letter writing, poster making, rangoli, solo singing, chess, carom were the events covering wide array of sports, performing arts, literary arts and fine arts.

On 29th January 2010, Ras Garba, group dance and fashion show competitions were conducted. An enthusiastic audience of more than 1000 students enjoyed the show.

A strong belief in our 150 volunteers, their energies, potentials were the pivotal resources that made Gandharva a successful event. A team of volunteers, along with Gandharva head Ashwin Dhakras, co-ordinator Prof. (Mrs.) Monika Deshpande, under the guidance and continuous encouragement of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala A. Singh made Gandharva, a memorable event.

The Second Workshop-International Seminar on 'Mind, Brain and Consciousness'

The 2nd  preparatory workshop of the International Seminar on ‘Mind, Brain and Consciousness was held on 27th November (from 9.00 a.m. to 2 p.m.) by the Research Institute of the Philosophy Department of our College. Workshop began with a prayer and the felicitation of dignitaries by Dr. (Mrs.) S.A. Singh.

The guest speakers delivered lectures on the various themes. The details of the lectures are as follows.

Dr. Ajai R. Singh delivered a lecture on “Brain, Meditation and Creativity”

Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala A. Singh delivered a lecture on “Philosophy of Body and Mind (from traditional Western point of view)”.

Each session was followed by brain storming question answer and discussion.
The abstract containing abstracts of papers presented during the first and the second workshop, and papers to be presented in the main seminar, was released at the hands of Dr. Ajai Singh Co-sponsor of the seminar. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala Singh, co –Ordinator Prof. Mrs. S.A. Naik were present for the released of the abstract.   

Following Papers were presented in the second session of the workshop by scholars.

  1. Dr. Avinash De Sousa read a paper on “Freudian Theory and Consciousness”.
  2. Dr.Neeta Mehta read a paper on “Mind-Body Dualism: A Critique from a Health Perspective”.
  3. Prof. Manoj R Patharkar presented a paper on“An Interdisciplinary approach to Mind”.
  4. Mr. Salman Chalikkara presented a paper on “Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP): A Gate Way To The Mind”.
  5. Mr. Syam K.R read a paper on “Efficacy of various Psychotherapies in altering Brain and Consciousness”.
  6. Mr. Thomas M.V presented a paper on “What is mind? : A neuropsychological perspective”.
  7. Mr. Bhausaheb Biradar presented a paper on “Two Approaches to Test Cognitive Linguistics as a Tool to Study Mind”.

All the papers were very well received by the audience.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Chhaya Kore. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Moonam Yadav. The workshop ended with Pasaydan.

 

On 30th September, 2009

On 30th September, 2009 Oasis Nature Club organized its inaugural fuction at kattyayan. The speaker was Shri. Punam Singhvi President Haryali, Thane. The topic of discussion was “Students Participation in Environment Protection”. Shri. Punam Singhvi spoke on depletion of natural resources and the various ways of conservation of natural resources. Students and teachers of Degree College attended the fuction.

On the 4th of September, 2009 the academy invited Mr. Abhay Nagle, Engineering consultant with UDEY. Mr. Nagle a chemical engineer by qualification , a staunch Gandhian by thought, spoke on recession. The appealing feature about his speech was that he spoke in a very simple language, free of heavy Economic Jargon. There after, he also gave the students helpful tips to be followed before appearing for an examination. Students rushed to him in the end to demand copies of the tips. Mr. Nagle ended the presentation with a beautiful story in which the candle of ‘hope’ rejuvenates all her friends (candle).

Is the young generation emotionally equipped to face  challenges of today?

This topic was selected basically to find the root cause of the emotional instability in the young generation that handicaps them in facing the challenges of today. The discussion brought out following factors causing emotional instability in todays younger generation

Faulty Parenting

Environment

Heredity

Negative impact of media

Lack of quality reading

Ignoring traditional culture

Materialism

Unhealthy competition

Generation gap

One or the above factors have made younger generation of today egoistic, impatient, confused and emotionally unstable.
The discussion focused on how to get rid of the problem from the root   cause. The possible solutions put forth were:

Proper parenting

Conducting Discussions, workshops and role plays.

Innovative punishments

Quality reading

Encouraging the younger generation to express their emotions, to understand their emotions as well as others emotions.

Surge- A past Student Association

On the auspicious of Guru Pornima" Surge" the Past Student Association of Joshi Bedekar College celebrates the day with full enthusiasm and love for their Gurus who shaped their life when they were students. The programme started with Guru Vandana by Ms. Sneha Sharma and Lighting the Traditional lamp by Prin.Dr.Mrs.Shakuntala Singh, President of Association Adv.Mrs.Madhavi Naik, Secretary Shri. Ravindra Manjrekar and Vice-principals of Degree and Junior College.
On this occasion Vidya Prasarak Mandals Chairman, Dr.V.V.Bedekar talked about the duties of gurus. Prin .Dr.Mrs.Shakuntala Singh, emphasized the need to bring more past student in our Joshi Bedekar family. Adv .Madhavi Naik spoke on the important of Gurus.
For making the atmosphere enjoyable Ms.Shweta Sukhadhare gave a performance and Ms.Sneha Sharma and Mr.Anjayya Mandip recited poems based on Gurus. The programme was well handled by Mr. Swapnil N. Mayekar and Mr.Atul Pethe. For this occasiona a special slide show was made by Venkatesh Kadam from TYBA (Philosophy)

The inaugural function of the Generation Dialogue was held on 25th July, 2009 at 3.30 p.m. in the presence of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) S.A. Singh, Vice Principal Mrs. G.P. Tirmare, supervisor Shri. P.H. Bachchao Chair person Mrs. S.S. Vaidya & all Junior college teachers & students.

The chief guest was former judge & advocate Shri V.P. Patil. He enlightened our students about morals & ethics of life. His speech was appealing & focused.
Principal Dr. (Mrs.) S.A. Singh stated that Generation Dialogue is the unique feature of the college.

The programme ended with an effective question - answer session between Principal Dr. (Mrs.) S. A. Singh and students.

The First Parent-Teachers Meeting was held on 11th July, 2009, at 2.30 pm. Principal Dr.Shakuntala.A.Singh, Vice-Principal Mrs. G.P.Tirmare, Supervisor Shri. P.H.Bachcchao, Parent -Teacher Association chairperson Shri.T.R.Hedav and Junior College teachers, attended the meeting.
More than 350 parents were present . The main focus of the meeting was on informing parents about the on-line attendance. Principal Dr. Mrs. Shakuntala Singh address focused on many relevant issues.
Subject teachers gave details about oral exams, projects, practicals and the importance of pupils academic performance, personality development and discipline.
The meeting ended with a question-answer session between parents and teachers. The teachers solved all the queries and difficulties raised by the parents. Parent expressed their opinions and expressed that they were fully satisfied by their decision to send their child to this college.
