Guest Lectures

On 9th August 2010 a guest lecture was organized by Department of Geography entitled “Geography is a Practical Subject”. The speaker was Ex. Head of the Department Prof. P.G. Shinde. He enlightened the students about the simple and systematic use of geography in our day-to-day life.
-
On 7th September 2010 orientation and awareness programme on Geographical Information System was organized. The speaker was Mr. Pritam Karvir, Business Executive, Gynesis Ltd. He explained the concept of GIS and upcoming carrier opportunities in GIS to our students.

- “A Stress Management Session” was organized for TYBA Geography students by Prof. Suchitra Naik (Conseller of Joshi Bedekar College) Students were benefited to release the stress before appearing the final university exam. [PHOTOS]

Field Trips
-
On 4th August 2009, a field visit for TYBA students was organized to South Mumbai. The aim was to make students aware about the economic activities of Central Business District and functioning of Urban Structure. [PHOTOS]

On 12th and 26th Sep 2009 field trips were organized for FYBA, Division A and B respectively at Mumbra Devi. The main objective of field trip was to show Physical and Cultural features of the region.

Another field trip was organized on 25th November 2009 at Uttan-Bhayendar for TYBA students. Students observed geographical features such as landforms formed by sea waves, culture of fishing village, economic activities- fishing, salt making, agriculture etc. [PHOTOS]

A Library Orientation of Library was done for TYBA students.

“The Secrets of Deserts” a documentary was screened for TYBA students on 11th September 2009

Guest Lecture
- On 23rd August 2008 a seminar on GIS (Geographical Information System) was arranged by Department of Geography.
- Geography Department had arranged a second lecture on ‘Health Conditions in Maharashtra’ by Mrs. Sulabha Parasurama a senior officer in IIPS.

Field Trips

A field trip was arranged on Tuesday 30th September 2008 to Navi Mumbai to study the development of planned city, infrastructure, sources of wholesaling and Retailing etc.

- On 11th January 2008 a field trip was organized to Vaitarna Valley for TYBA. Students observed the valleys and landforms formed by Vaitarna river. The soil analysis and plant identification was also done by students. [PHOTOS]

Other Activities

In the month of August 2005 a farewell function was arranged for Prof. P.G.Shinde, Head, Department of Geography. He retired after a long meritorious service to the Department and the College.

Four Students actively participated in the “Kani Memorial Inter Collegiate Debate Competition” organized Bombay Geographical Association at Sathaye College, Vile Parle, Mumbai on 27th November 2005. Our student Shreyas Bhogate won the third prize for his talk on “Hazardous Natural Calamities-Mumbai Flood 26th July 2005”.
