Development Cell
On 1st
Aug. and 9th
Aug. 2008, Training of Trainers (TOT), a workshop on Gender Equality
and sexuality was held by Women’s Development cell of University
of Mumbai. Prof. P. P. Tokekar, Chairperson of W.D.C., Joshi Bedekar
College attended this workshop on both the days.
Along with Akshara a well
known non - governmental organization, a programme was held on 29th
Aug. 2008 on eve - teasing and gender violence. A documentary film
prepared by Akshara was screened for students.
During the ‘Week
against Dowry’, on 3rd
Dec. a programme was held on the violence against women. The Chief
Guest was Shahir Sambhaji Bhagat who through powadas, depicted
various problems faced by Indian women.
The Women’s Development
Cell comprises, Dr. Mrs. Singh (President),
Mrs. M. M. Thete (Representative of supporting staff), Prof. S. V.
Bhide, convenor (Member of LMC), P. P. Tokekar (Chairperson), Prof.
N. S. Barse and Prof. S. G. Shinde.
The cell ensures that any
case relating to sexual harassment and other violation of women’s
rights is tackled effectively. The efforts are made to enable our
women students function in an atmosphere that is conducive to the
development of personality Fortunately, there has been no case of
sexual harassment placed before the cell.
