Student's Council

It brings me immense pleasure to present before you the Students' Council Report for this year. The strength of 52 council members comprising student representatives from senior as well as junior college worked hand in with more than 100 volunteers and supportive staff for the success of council as a whole.

The year started off with 'Satyanarayan Pooja', a platform for peace and unity. Followed by Teacher's Day celebrations featuring a great short film and handcrafed mementos to teachers by students. Official meetings and weekly council meets insured a grand success in integrating the council and boosting morale of everyone with the help of Prof. Mrs. Naik's counseling session and Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Singh madam's guidance.

End of the year brought the season of festivals and Joshi-Bedekar marked it off with "Gandharva'08", the intercollegiate cultural festival. The second year of this festival attracted well over 20 colleges from all over Mumbai. The festivel spotted sixteen events comprising Creative Performing and Literary Arts. Renowed director and writer Shri Shirish Latkar inaugurated the event on 11th December 2008. The two day event sparked off the momentum for the youth festivel spirits.

December saw the biggest event of Joshi- Bedekar college; "Navrang'08", the intra-collegiate festival. Friendship day, Rose day, tie-saree day gave the youth a chance to step out of the regular college life into a happening world of joy. At the same time white day made a salute to all the brave souls' the victims of cowardly acts of terrorism in Mumbai. Whereas Water day and Jungle day spread the mesage of environment protection. Various activities were organized by students with guidance and advice from teachers. The events included Sports, Quiz, Essay, News Reading and Writing, Best out of Waste, Fine arts, Mehendi, Rangoli and much more. As a tribute to martyrs, all the students celebrated the event in low profile but with great spirit. Our chief guest
Mrs. Shyamshree Bhonsale appreciated the students for their achievements' on Annual Day organized on 24th December, 2008. Hard work of council members was felicitated with certificates during the ceremony.

The workshop by Mumbai Police headed by Mr. Deshmane, Deputy Comissioner of Police was a grand success. The workshop was named as "Prashna T umache Uttar Amache" , an informative workshop stressing upon Mumbai Police's structure and how a civilian can help them in their work.

N.S.S. and N.C.C. camps were neatly arranged by the authorities and well supported by members of Students's Council. Governor's peace rally at Shivaji Park, Dadar saw well over 300 students from Joshi-Bedekar College.

Various career-oriented seminars and workshops were conducted in the whole year. Talent academy created awareness under the guidance of Prof. Mr. Patharkar.

As the academic year came to a close for the members of the council, all were gearing up for the National Seminar and "Chrysalis'09", the management inter-collegiate festival which were being planned with precision and guarantee of success.

On behalf of Students' Council 08-09, I would like to thank our Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala Ajay Singh, Our Vice-Principals, Dr. Padmini Murti, Prof. Mrs. Leela Bhat, Prof. Mrs. U.S. Beke and our convener Prof. D.S.
