The number of
N.S.S. Volunteers increased from 50 to 100 volunteers.
Ø On Sunday 6th July,
2008 few N.S.S. Volunteers accompanied by Prof. Shivaji Naik joined
hands with N.C.C. unit of college in Tree Plantation Programme
organized by Hariyali
organization at Lonad near Padgha.
Ø On Friday 18th July,
2008, 31 N.S.S. Volunteers accompanied by Prof. Shivaji Naik
attended programme organized by
Mumbai
University
to celebrate 152nd Foundation
Day of Mumbai University.
Ø On Saturday, 26th July,
2008, 54 N.S.S. Volunteers accompanied by Prof. Shivaji Naik and
Prof. Kalpana Chandhoke participated in the Tree Plantation
programme organized by Hariyali organization at Lonad near Padgha.
Ø On 2nd August,
2008, N.S.S. Volunteers attended the Friendship Day Programme
organized by AKSHARA organization at Shubham Karoti Hall at Thane.
They also participated in rally at Talao Pali with boards
conveying the message of true friendship.
Ø On Saturday 2nd August,
2008, our college along with the Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti
conducted the Zonal programme for creating a scientific awareness
approach among the student volunteers of N.S.S.
The programme was attended by Mr. Phondekar the district
co-coordinator of N.S.S. unit of Thane (Dist.), N.S.S. Programme
officers and N.S.S. student
volunteers of various colleges in our vicinity.
The programme was divided in 3 sessions.
1. Mr. Atul Pethe spoke about event management.
2. Dr. Bhadlikar a psychiatrist enlightened the
students about how to develop the leadership qualities.
3. Mr. Swapnil Tawade spoke about communication
skills.
a Practical Session – Six groups of
N.S.S. volunteers were formed randomly.
Each group had students of different colleges and performed
skit on assigned topics.
Ø On 12th August,
2008, 30 N.S.S. student volunteers accompanied by P.O. of our N.S.S.
Unit Prof. Mrs. Priyamvada P. Tokekar and member Prof. Kalpana
Chandhoke attended the training programme organised by Zilla
Parishad of Thane for the survey of Mal-nourished children.
Accordingly N.S.S. volunteers carried the survey in the areas
like Bhiwandi, Wada, Rayte etc.
Ø On the eve of Independence Day, 25 N.S.S.
volunteers sold the flag worth Rs.2/- and collected Rs.2,000/-.
The Hi-Tech Organisation working for
the physically challenged children provided these flags.
Ø On 15th August,
2008, all N.S.S. volunteers attended Flag Hoisting programme held in
the college premises.
Ø On 20th August,
2008, 21 N.S.S. volunteers participated in street play competition
organised by Jidnyasa Trust, Thane at Dnyanasadhana College on the
topic Eco-friendly Ganesh Utsav.
Ø On 27th August,
2008, the N.S.S. volunteers organized a Blood Donation programme in
association with the Civil Hospital
(Thane) in our college.
Ø
On 29th Aguust,
2008, a programme with AKSHARA, an NGO was organized by N.S.S. unit
in our college. The
topic discussed was on Gender violence.
A documentary film on eve teasing was
shown.
Ø On 8th September,
2008, on the eve of Gauri Visarjan, 39 N.S.S. student volunteers and
on 14th September,
2008, on Anant Chaturdashi 33 N.S.S. student volunteers participated
in the various activities such as registration of names, Traffic
control and collection of nirmalya.
The students were directed into different areas such as Mus
Chowk, Jail Talav, Kalwa Khadi etc.
Ø From 9th September,
2008, to 13th September,
2008, the student volunteers and secretary of N.S.S. of our college
Harshala Gulvi participated in the LTP programme organized by
Somaiya
College
.
Ø On 24th September,
2008, being N.S.S. day, was celebrated by our college. Ms. Vandana
Shinde, President of ANIS Thane Shakha had a dialogue with the
students about Indian Festivals and changing nature of their
celebrations. N.S.S.
volunteers prepared posters as well as performed skit on celebration
of Ganesh Festival, Navratri Festival, Holi and Diwali.
Ø On 2nd October,
2008, 06 student volunteers of N.S.S. accompanied by Prof. Shivaji
Naik attended a programme held on the eve of Vishwa Ahimsa Divas in
the convocation hall, Mumbai University, Fort.
The programme was held by Rashtriya Seve Yojana in
collaboration with the Gandhi’s studies centre, Gandhi Shanti
Kendra, Sarvoday Mandal and Sadbhavna Sangh.
Ø A ten day residential camp was organized at
Mamnoli near Kalyan from 10th November,
2008 to 19th November,
2008. 46 volunteers
attended the camp. The
camp consisted of two types of activities-Shramadan i.e. manual work
in tribal area and second was Personality Development of volunteers
through lectures and other activities which sensitized them about
social issues.
During the 10 days NSS camp, the following Resource persons were
invited.
1.
Ms. Varsha Parchure an ex-student of Joshi-Bedekar College
and an active member of the NSS unit of Joshi-Bedekar college was
invited. She is an
active member of Prasad Chikitsa an NGO.
She has dealt with many issues related to problems faced by
small children, women, etc. She
guided the students as
to how NSS can become a stepping stone for social service in general
and a career in social service in particular.

PATHNATYA :
As street play is very important activity in NSS,
Mr. Sudhir Vani, member of “Rashtra Seva Dal” was invited.
He enlightened the students about the basic requirements for
performing Pathnatya. Under
his guidance, the NSS students performed Pathnatya on various topics
like superstition,
dowry, literacy, population and environment .
He guided the students as to how they can improve their
performance.

KAVYA SAMMELAN:
As literature reflects society, a Kavya
Sammelan was held. The
poems with social relevance were read by Prof. Damodar Morey and
Prof. Manoj Patharkar of Joshi – Bedekar college.
4.
JYOTI MEDITATION:
Prof. Doshi of Joshi-Bedekar college has
been teaching Philosophy for past many years.
She taught the students Jyoti Meditation, a concentration
exercise.
5.
Mr. Vivek Patil
is associated with BRAVO sports club and is
teaching Gymnastics for many years.
He is an international player and has won several prizes.
He conducted activities such as running race for boys, potato
race for girls, yoga and various other exercises.
He emphasized the role of exercise.
6. Ms.
Meenal Sohoni,
a social activist and an ex-programme officer,
Agarwal college addressed the students about different activities
that can be undertaken in NSS.
OTHER
IMPORTANT PROGRAMMES:
Baldin (Children Day)
On 14th November,
on the eve of Baldin (Childrens Day), programme was arranged
with the children in the hostel at Hindu Seva Sangh in Mamnoli.
Variety of entertainment programmes and games were arranged
for these children. Later
craft material was given to them and under the guidance of NSS
student volunteers, the children made boat, cap, photo frame,
greeting cards etc. At
the end they were felicitated by giving them marks, chocolates and
books of moral stories. Around
30 children were present for Baldin.
Andhashraddha Nirmulan Progra
On 16th Nov.,
Andhashraddha Nirmulan Programme was conducted in
Kunda
Village
along with ANIS. Ms.
Vandana Shinde, President, ANIS, Thane Branch guided the students
and the programme was conducted in co-operation with ANIS.
Around 200 people attended the programme.
Health Camp
On 16th Nov.,
in Kunda village, a health camp was organized.
Eminent doctors Dr. Anagha Upasani an Ophthalmologist (an eye
surgeon) and Dr. Abhay Upasani, a gastroenterologist organized a
health camp for the village. They told about various diseases
related to eyes and stomach and what can be
done to prevent them. The
programme was attended by around 100 persons.
The doctors also examined a few people.
Shramadan
v
The NSS student volunteers cleared the ground in
Amrai
Garden
in Hindu Seva Sangh.
v
They performed activity of flattening of road near High
School in Kunda village.
v
Swachata Abhiyan was undertaken at Masroondi village.
5.
A lecture on sex education was delivered by member
of NSS unit Prof.
Suchitra Naik for girl students in High School at Kunda village.
Around 50 girl students attended the same.
6. AKASH DARSHAN :
Along with the above mentioned
programme, a programme on AKASHDARSHAN was also organized.
The chief invitee was Shree Gokhale.
Thus, in the camp an attempt was made to cover
different issues related to the village and issues related to the
personality development of NSS volunteers.

On 25th Nov. 2008, and 26th Nov.
2008, 14 NSS student volunteers attended a Peer group workshop of
AIDS Awareness and Sex education organized at Somaiya College. On
1st December 2008, all NSS student volunteers accompanied by Prof.
Kalpana Chandhoke participated in a rally organized by Civil
Hospital, Thane for the purpose of creating AIDS Awareness. On 8th Dec,
2008, NSS volunteers performed a street play on the theme of
creating AIDS awareness in the adopted area at Kharton Road.

On 3rd Dec. 2008, NSS
unit of our college with Akshara organized a programme on domestic
violence on the women on the eve of dowry prohibition week.
Mr. Shahir Sambhaji Bhagat by means of Powada highlighted the
violence inflicted on women.

On 4th Dec. 2008, and 5th Dec.
2008, 10 to 15 NSS student volunteers participated in inter-college
competition Anubhuti held by Ruia college.
The various competitions in which they participated were
singing, elocution, poster-making etc.
Ø
On 12th Dec.2008,
NSS student
volunteers accompanied by NSS P.O. Prof. Tokekar
and member of NSS Prof. Shivaji Naik, performed a street play on
Andhashraddha in the adopted area.
This was followed by Andhashraddha Nirmulan Programme in the
adopted area along with Ms. Vandana Shinde, President of
ANIS (Thane).
On 20th Dec,
m2008, all NSS student volunteers participated in a Peace Rally at
Shivaji
Park
.
On 23rd Dec.,2008,
Red Ribbon club arranged a Poster competition followed by exhibition
of the posters on the theme of creating AIDS awareness.
15 NSS student volunteers participated in
the Pulse Polio Progamme from 21.12.2008 to 26.12.2008.
From 21.12.2008 to 27.12.2008, 04 NSS
volunteers attended a university level special camp organized by NSS,
Mumbai
University
and Arts, Commerce and
Science
College
, Shivale.
On 6th Jan
2009, in
Kalsekar
College
, One Day Zonal programme was organized on the theme of the role of
youth in national integration. Six NSS volunteers of our college
attended the workshop.
Fifty NSS student volunteers along with
the Z.P. of Thane District under the programme of Social Welfare
Development, conducted a survey to collect a statistics about number
of handicapped people in different categories like visual, auditory,
mentally challenged etc.
In all. it has been a very active year of
the NSS Unit.

Programmer Office N.S.S.
After forming N.S.S. Committee for junior
college we, the committee members, convinced the Students to
participate in N.S.S. Our persuasion got good result getting more
than eight volunteers, particularly 12th Std. student despite of
their important year in academic career.
Principal Dr. Mrs. S.A. Singh inaugurated the committee in
the month of August and inspired the students explaining the
importance of social service.
N.S.S. Volunteers helped police department in ‘Ganpati
Emersion’.
Sanskriti Pratisthan asked for volunteer for ‘Dahi –
handi’. 20 male volunteer served there for two hours.
1st Dec. known as ‘World – AIDS day’ the health
department arranged a rally from collector’s office. All the
volunteers paticipated in the rally.
After terrorists attack on Mumbai,
University
of
Mumbai
, organized on ‘Oath taking program against Terrorists’ to be
given by the Governor or
Maharashtra
. Junior college volunteer participated along with senior college
volunteer.
Before final examination, we plan to undertake ‘Campers
Clearing Campaign’ and Free-Plantation, at the same time, we plan
to adopt the plants existing on the campus.
Finally, I thank my committee member Prof. T.R. Hedar, Prof.
Ms. Savita Zinjurde, N.S.S. Secretary Ms. Himangi Kachrekar and
Ramchandra Salkar, for their whole hearted co-operation and
expect the same in the next academic year also.
