Association
The English Literary
Association of English Department is a forum where students are
exposed to the main concerns of literary art to stimulate their
receptivity and creativity. In the pursuit of this aim, number of
activities were organized in the academic year 2008-09.
The activities of the
Association began with a guest lecture on 'Role of Editor in
Newspaper Making' delivered on 22nd July 2008 by Mr. Ravindra
Manjrekar, Principal Correspondent, and Daily Loksatta. This lecture
was arranged to an audience of SYBA (ACG) students on subjects like
Journalism and Mass Communication. This lecture marked a beginning
of the activities of the academic year.
The inaugural function of
Association for the academic year 2008-09 was held on Wednesday,
30th July 2008 in Kathyan Auditorium. The Head of English
Department, University of Mumbai, Dr. Rambhau Badode was the chief
guest and an inaugurator who gave an excellent talk on 'Indian Women
Novelists.' At the same time, Dr. Badode released the wallpaper of
the department that is beautifully titled as 'Fragrance'. Poster
poetry was also exhibited on the theme of rain. He congratulated the
Editorial team led by a TYBA student, Ms. Gayatri Suryavanshi. The
past students of the department who secured first classes at TYBA
(English) were also felicitated on this occasion. Principal
Dr. Shakuntala A. Singh presided over the function and delivered a
presidential speech. Mr. Pramod Kharate, Head of English Department
gave an introductory at the proceeding of the function. Teachers and
students were present on large number for this function.
The students of the
department were inspired to participate in literary activities,
writing articles and improving handwriting and to imbibe literary
insight among students in the several meeting conducted for the
students of English Literature.
On 13th Dec. 2008, paper presentation of
TYBA students was arranged. All students presented their papers on
the topics of
literature. Vice-principal Dr. Padmini Murthy
wished students all the best. Vice-principal (Mrs.) Leela Bhat, Mr.
D.S. Bhide and members of the department were present on this
occasion. Mr. Manoj Patharkar interacted with students. It was a
self inspiring session for the students.
I would like to sincerely thank our Principal Dr.
Mrs. S.A.Singh, Vice Principals Mrs. Leela Bhat, Dr. Padmini Murthy
for their constant support and encouragement in the conduct of
various programmes. I am also thankful to office staff for their
co-operation. I express my gratitude towards my young colleagues of
the department, Mr. Manoj Patharkar, Ms. Madhavi Arekar, Mr. Santosh
Gaikwad and Ms. Suja Roy for their unconditional support and
enthusiastic involvement in all the activities conducted this
academic year.
