Gymkhana & Sports Academy Report 2013-14
It gives me great pleasure to present gymkhana and sports academy report for the year 2013-2014.The year has been a fruitful year in terms of achievements of our young students from degree and junior college in various sports event in individual and team events. Our students have participated and achieved success at interschool, intercollegiate, interuniversity and open tournaments at District , State and National Levels.
Achievements of Degree College
ATHLETICS -:
# Amit Pawar of TYBCOM won Gold Medal In Triple Jump and Silver Medal In Long Jump In Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments. He won Silver medal In Long Jump and Triple Jump at 17th Maharashtra State Inter-University Sports festival held at Nasik from 27th November to 01st December 2013.He was selected for 29th National Junior Athletics Championship held at Banglore( Karnataka) from 3rd to 7th Dec 2013. He participated in 25th National Inter Zonal Junior Athletics Championship held at Kochi (Kerala) from 22nd to 24th Sep 2013 and secured 5th position in Long Jump. He won silver medal in Long Jump at Junior Athletics State Competition 2013 held at Pune . He won Gold medal in Long Jump at 25th Junior Athletics West Zone Championship 2013 held at Vadodara (Gujarat).
# Nikhil Sarnobat of SYBA Won Gold Medal In High Jump and Silver Medal In Triple Jump at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments. He won Gold medal in Triple Jump and silver medal in High Jump at 17th Maharashtra State Inter-University Sports festival held at Nasik from 27th November to 01st December 2013. He won Silver Medal in High Jump with Performance of 1.85 meters at Senior State Competition Held at Pune .
# Savani Kabre of SYBA won Bronze medal in 5KMS Running at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments. She has secured 5th position in Cross Country at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments. She represented Mumbai university cross country team for All India Inter University Championship.
BADMINTON (WOMEN) –:
# Our college Team won Gold medal in Team Championship in Women’s Badminton at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments .Team players were Vallari Bukane ,Ishani Navathe ,Krutika Koli ,Swarali Purohit .
# Vallari Bukane of FYBAF won Gold Medal at Mumbai University Badminton Women Singles Championship .She represented Mumbai university at west zone and won Women’s Badminton West Zone Inter-University Championship held at Kota ,Rajasthan .She had represented Mumbai university for Women’s Badminton All India Inter University Championship and Mumbai University Women’s team won Silver medal . She won Gold Medal at MCF state Badminton tournament at state level and won silver medal position at Maharashtra Junior State selection Badminton tournament held at Karad. She won Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles Open Maharashtra State Tournament held at Borivali.She is runner up at U-19 Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles at 3rd State Tournament held at Vive. She won U-19 Girls Singles And Women’s Singles Thane district championship held at Vashi , Navi Mumbai. She is Runner Up in Women’s doubles at 3rd Senior State Tournament held at Parbhani. She was in the Maharashtra’s Junior and Senior Team of Badminton. She represented Maharashtra state at all india women’s championship.
BADMINTON (MEN) –:
Our college Team qualified for semi final in Team Championship at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Tournaments. Team players were Purshottam Awate, Ganesh Mahalle, Shreyas Dhupkar, Chetan Tandel, Shreyas Gaikwad.
# Purshottam Awate of SYBA has won Silver medal at Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Men’s Singles Championship. He represented Mumbai university at west zone inter university and won west zone Inter-University Championship. He is qualified for Men’s Badminton All Inter-University Championship. He is Runner Up at Vanita Samaj Open Maharashtra State Tournament held at Mumbai in Men’s Doubles Badminton .He was selected for All India Senior ranking Badminton tournament held at Pune between 17th to 21st July 2013. He won at Challengers trophy in Mumbai held between 2nd to 6th July 2013.He was Qualified for quarter final in Men’s singles District championship held at Vashi between 9th to 15th August 2013 .He was selected for senior state selection held at Khar-Mumbai between 11th to 14thAugust 2013.He was selected for Senior state selection-held at Nanded between 20th to 24th Sept 2013.
JUDO-:
Pritesh Gaonkar of FYBAF won Gold medal at District level Judo Competition held on 13th October 2013 and Selected for State level Judo Competition held on 29th and 30th October 2013 at Amravati. He was awarded Best Judoka at 41st youth and junior Maharashtra state judo championship 2013-14 and national selection trials held at Amravati in junior group.He won Gold medal at 3rd National Kurash Championshipheld at Dombivali.
WRESTLING-:
Pritika Shreevardhankar of FYBA qualified in Mumbai university inter collegiate for Inter university women wrestling championship to be held at Meerat in Uttar Pradesh.
KABADDI-:
Our college students Kapil Mandhare selected for State Kabaddi team selection 2013-2014.
KHO- KHO -:
# Our college and University of Mumbai jointly organized Intercollegiate Zone III (Thane) and Zone IV (Raigad)Kho –Kho men’s tournament on 28th and 29th October 2013. Our college Kho -Kho team were was qualified from zone III for Mumbai university Inter Zonal Kho- Kho tournament held at Ambedkar College, Wadala on 30th October 2013.Our college Kho –Kho player Jay Bagwe from FYBAF was selected for Mumbai University Kho-Kho Team in Top 20 Players. He was selected in kho kho team for 41st junior state championship. He represented thane district at 50th men’s state championship.Samrat koli represented Thane district at 41st Junior State championship.
FENCING-:
Raj Kishorkumar Rane from SMART course –Community college First year student won Gold medal in 1st Youth Maharashtra state Fencing championship organized by Maharashtra Fencing Association in “Sabre” event held on 5th to 7th October 2013 at pune. He was selected for Mumbai city district Senior team player by Association.
BEST PHYSIQUE AND POWER LIFTING-:
Prathmesh Vichare from TYBCOM secured 4th Position and Kapil Mandhare of FYBA secured 5th Position Mumbai University Intercollegiate Best Physique competition held on 27th January 20-14 at G.M.Vedak college Tala Dist. Raigad.Swapnil Naik from SYFM secured 4th Position Mumbai University Intercollegiate Powerlifting competition held on 27th January 20-14 at G.M.Vedak college Tala Dist. Raigad.
Historical Start for Langadi at University level in Joshi - Bedekar College.
Our College organized Mumbai University Intercollegiate Langadi (Women)Tournament on 13th February 2014 for Zone III (Thane) and Zone IV (Raigad) The tournament was inaugurated by the hands of Principle Dr. Shakuntala A. Singh and Director of Physical Education and Sports Department of Mumbai University, Dr. Uttam Kendre. ‘Langadi’ is traditional sport of India, which largely played up to School level. . However, considering the merit of the game University of Mumbai has taken initiative to take the game of Langadi to national and International level. It is with special initiative of honourable Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajan Welukar, that this year onwards the game Langadi would be encouraged at College and University level in Mumbain University. It was historical moment for college that the inauguration of Langadi (Women) was held in our college in University of Mumbai.More than 20 colleges participated in the Zone III (Thane) and Zone IV ( Raigad) in this tournament .Matches of Langadi were judged by referee appointed by Thane Dist. Langadi Association.The college which have qualified for final round from zone III (Thane) are Sterling college,Nerul , Pendharkar college,Domibivali ,A.S.C. College,Wada, A.S.C. College,Jawhar and from zone IV (Raigad) C.K.T. College, Panvel and Mahatma Phule College, Panvel were qualified for final round .
JUNIOR COLLEGE ACHIVEMENTS
KHO-KHO-:
Our college Kho-Kho Girls team was runners- up at Thane district (TMC Area) inter junior collegiate Kho -Kho tournament. Our Kho-Kho Boys team lost in semi-final. Our College had organised DSO Thane Muncipal Corporation Inter Collegiate (Junior) Kho-Kho Boys and Girls Competition on 14th Oct 2013 at Kho-Kho ground.
KABADDI-:
Our college Kabaddi Boys Team was winner at Thane district (TMC Area)Inter junior collegiate kabaddi tournament held at Vartak nagar ,Thane in October 2013.
BOXING-:
# Swati Jagadale of SYJC Commerce won the Gold medal at Thane dist-TMC Area.
And she also won Gold medal at Mumbai divisional Boxing competition held at Mumbai in October 2013
# Nisha Gaikwad of FYJC Commerce won the Gold medal at Thane dist-TMC Area
And she also won Gold medal at Mumbai divisional Boxing competition held at Mumbai in October 2013
# Swati Jagadale and Nisha Gaikwad represented Mumbai division at State level Inter Junior college Boxing competition held at Wardha on 26th October 2013 .
KARATE-:
# Vaibhav Thakare of FYJC Commerce won the Gold medal in SQAY at Thane dist (TMC Area) held at Thane on 20th October 2013 and he represented Thane district at Mumbai division. He won silver medal at DSO -division level under 19 -54 kgs group SQAY competition. He won Bronze medal at DSO State level SQAY under 19-54 kgs group championship held at Satara .He won Gold medal in kick boxing DSO District Zone level under 19 -55 kgs group championship held at Thane. He won Gold medal in Budukon (karate) at Nehru Yuva Kendra Budukon district level under 19 championship held at Thane.He won Silver medal in Budukon (karate) at Nehru Yuva Kendra Budukon district level under 19 championship held at Raigad district.

The college Annual Athletic meet was held on 23rd December 2013 .the following students were the winners of college athletic individual championship.

SPORTS ACADEMY
This year Sports academy was inaugurated by International Kabaddi player Abhilasha Mhatre on 30th September 2013.Guest lecture delivered by her on the topic of’ Career in Kabaddi ‘and she interacted with students and guided them for sports as a career.
We have started Boxing training for boys and girls of Junior and Degree college students from 1st August 2013 under the guidance of Boxing Coach Mr.Meelan Vaidya
We have organized Self-Defense Training Programme in association with Women Development Cell from 26th august 2013 for Degree college girl’s students. During first semester we have completed training sessions for three batches. During second semester we have completed training sessions for three batches.
We have started training sessions for Girl’s cricket team from August 2013 at Central ground,Thane. This year first time our college will participate in Mumbai university Inter collegiate Women cricket tournament.
We have rescheduled the timing of Gymnasium and the new timings are 8:30am to 11:30am and 2:00pm to 4:00pm for Boys and 11:30am to 1:30pm for Girls students with students’ request for the same for their convenience purpose.
Gymkhana and Sports academy hosted Indoor and Outdoor games for Japanese students from Kyoto-Sangyo University of Japan under Cultural Exchange Programme on 10th and 11th September 2013.
University of Mumbai has decided to start Intercollegiate Langadi competition for girls from this year onwards. According to their direction our college had organized Inter class Langadi competition for our girl’s students on 7th December 2013. We have received good response from students for this competition. Total six teams participated in this tournament.
We have organized Indoor and Outdoor games for junior and degree college students from 9th December to 20th December 2013. We have organized indoor and outdoor games for Teaching and Non Teaching staff of college during this tenure.
We have organized Best Physique competition for Junior and Degree college boys on 18th December 2013 at Gymkhana.
